Adding custom artwork/images to emby files

Hello, i am adding videos to my emby server which the internet databases won't have images for.  I've been trying to add my own images and meta data to these files with easyTag on linux.  The meta data works fine, but adding the image proves to be difficult.  On some of the files, emby will display the image I added with easytag in the emby dashboard, but other files won't display properly.  Is there a trick to adding images to files meta data.  I don't want to add the images within emby because i have these videos on a external hard drive which i access with Kodi when traveling and I would like the images and meta data to show up on my travel machine.
