Genre cleaner

I tried Genre Cleaner just now, I see it working when I run library scan, but then nothing happened and I still have the duplicate genres with the same contents as before. Refresh metadata seemingly does not do anything. What was the correct process to get it to have effect?

e.g.

2025-03-19 19:18:26.903 Info App: Genre 'R&B' mapped to 'R'n'B' for Mary J Blige.

2025-03-19 19:18:26.959 Info App: Genre 'R&B' mapped to 'R'n'B' for 1992 Top 100.

2025-03-19 19:18:27.022 Info App: Genre 'R&B' mapped to 'R'n'B' for Luther Vandross & Janet.

Turns out there was no feedback when I started metadata refresh, so it looked like nothing happened. The plugin description still does not say you have to do this, btw. It says to do a library scan, which isn't enough.

After a while I noticed the server started making HDD noises and kept at it most of the night. Now I see the cleaner actually worked and the duplicate genres were merged.

@MightyPork

HI, we'll update the description in the plugin to mention this. Thanks for the feedback.

I am having the same problem, except the genre mapping never seems to take effect no matter how many times I refresh metadata on the library. What I have done is map the genres in my TV Shows library to combine a number of the genres. I have saved the configuration. Then done a re-scan of files in the library. Then, I refresh the metadata at the library level. THen, I wait, and nothing happens. I feel like I have missed a step in the process. Is my workflow complete or is there some other step I need to take to make the genre mapping effective?
