You people are awesome to be honest, your work is very much appreciated! Now I feel inclined to buy the Lifetime package Hope that I did not cause yous too much of a headache with this issue! Sincerely, someone who also fixes pesky bugs like this on a daily basis  No worries, thanks for the feedback.  Leaving it on for 10 minutes was going to be my next suggestion. Do you have an idea how long it was before the subs actually appeared? Did it take the full 10 minutes? If you try playback again, does it take another 10 minutes? As that file has external subs, can you please share just the ass file for me to test? Finally, can you please rename the ass file to include '.hun.ass' instead of '.ass' then refresh the metadata again for that movie and try again
Luke 42077 Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 Also can you please try the latest USB build and let us know how things compare? Thanks.
tenchiowo 6 Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 Hello, I also wanted to report that I am also seeing the same issue with certain encodes that were working fine before 1.9.8. This files are for English subtitles that are encoded into the video file. This only happens with certain series as others will still display properly.  I am currently running version 2.1.0 and Emby Windows Server edition 4.8.11.0. Playing the same video on other devices (Web Chrome, Nvidia Shield, Android Phone) all work fine and will display properly.  Please let me know if there is anything I can pass along to hopefully get this issue resolved.  Thank you. S9 Â
verdynius 6 Posted May 9, 2025 Author Posted May 9, 2025 Sorry about my absence, It has been some quite busy weeks for me. So the thing is: if I update subtitles to end in ".hun.ass", it triggers transcoding, which is not something I can live with, since my goal is to watch the content in its original format. As I'm writing this, I have updated the client to the latest (2.1.0) and the problem still persists.

It shouldn’t be triggering transcoding , so something else could be wrong. Can you please upload logs and media info for this test?

verdynius 6 Posted May 9, 2025 Author Posted May 9, 2025 (edited) Here are the logs and a screenshot. It is definitely doing transcoding. Â Edit: Added media info. SamES 1056 Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 @verdyniusif you disable subtitles before playback, does that file DirectPlay, or does it also transcode?
SamES 1056 Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 (edited) The log file has this error, which might explain why you don't see subtitles Warning: BuildSubtitleBurnInDemand: External subtitle file does not exist: G:\torrent.shared\Kimetsu no Yaiba S01-S03 BDBOX (BDRemux_1920x1080)\06. Demon Slayer - Season Four\[Anime-BD] Kimetsu no Yaiba S04EP03 (BDRemux 1920x1080 AVC PCM).ass Did you Refresh metadata after renaming the ass file? Edited May 9, 2025 by SamES
verdynius 6 Posted May 9, 2025 Author Posted May 9, 2025 (edited) Yeah, I reached the same conclusion, the metadata was not refreshed. I had the wrong assumption, that upon starting the client the data is refreshed. Dont ask me why I thought that. With the metadata refreshed it works like a charm. So in the future I just need to add the country tag to the subtitle file and it works. Edited May 9, 2025 by verdynius 2
