Silly Question

I know this will be a daft question but I'm still new to all this.

 

All I'm trying to do is stream mkv files from my laptop to XB1 

Where do the folders on my laptop need to be so the media browser can find them and stream to the console.

 

Any beginner advice would be brilliant!

They need to be wherever you pointed to when you setup your library.  Just install the server and go through the setup wizard.
