Hi there,

One thing I'd really like to se in Emby is the ability to set up virtual libraries.  Similar to the idea of virtual playlist also suggested on the forum, you'd be able to set up the libraries based on various parameters, such as rating or tag, or multiple conditions, and it creates a library by puling in the media from other libraries (or folders via nfo scanning, etc.) that you can control and manage in the same way as other libraries (eg, it appears in the user access, or home screen order, etc.).

The reason I suggest this is that, right now, I've got a "tv shows", "tv for everyone", and a "kids" set of folders and libraries.  The "tv for everyone" is essentially a set of hard links in a folder that point to shows in the "tv shows" folder, but that I then can give access to the kids.  It's a real ball-ache to manage that on the file system, but if it were automated in that I can say, for example, "genre = documentary, rating = PG", and keep adding conditionals until I build up that library as I want, then that would be amazing, as it would still allow me to say whether or not it appears when the kids log in with their user accounts.

Thanks!

Think they are lumping this in with Smart playlist/Smart views as something we are supposed to see in 4.9.

Hi, yes we are working on a smart views and playlists feature that will allow you to build your own categories like this.

Ah, OK, cool!  I did read that thread, but didn't get the impression it would go so far as "libraries" (as in, those that also appear under the management of users where you can specify which libraries a user can and cannot see), but happy if it's going to be the case!

I am looking forward to that new feature coming out, even if it doesn't exactly fit my needs. 😄
