JazzOwl 0 Posted March 15, 2025 Posted March 15, 2025 I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question: My Emby Server lives on a TrueNAS system with a Network Connection to my local network and a Direct Connection to my computer (Windows). I can connect to Emby Server through the Direct Connection IP Address, but once I close Emby Player, the connection resets to the Network IP Address. Is there a way to force Emby Player to only use the Direct Connection IP Address? Thank you

What's the "Direct Connection IP Address" and how is that different from the Network IP Address? Can you provide a specific example?
JazzOwl 0 Posted March 15, 2025 Author Posted March 15, 2025 Sure: The path of the Network IP Address is Sever-Router-Whatever is on the local network (computers, Nvidia Shield, phones, etc.) The path of the Direct Connection IP Address is Server-Computer. the only way to access the server through this way is from that specific computer. This means that the computer has two possible routes to the Emby Server: Network and Direct Connection. I'd like the computer Emby Player to use the Direct Connection and leave the network connection for all other devices.
ebr 16184 Posted March 15, 2025 Posted March 15, 2025 Can you give a specific example? Even on the same machine, the same network communication is happening.
JazzOwl 0 Posted March 15, 2025 Author Posted March 15, 2025 On the Emby Server side, I can see my users who are accessing the server and also from which IP Addresses they are accessing. For example, if someone is watching from the Shield, I can see the user, the content, streaming details (audio/video/etc.) and the IP Address. For the Shield, as well as anything else in my local network, the IP Address is 192.x.x.x. Since my computer is directly connected to my TrueNAS, I can access Emby through that connection, 10.x.x.x. When I open Emby Player for Windows, by default, it is accessing Emby Server through the 192.x.x.x address. I can change servers, input the 10.x.x.x address, log in with my account, and have full access to Emby through that Direct Connection IP Address. I can watch something on my computer, and in the Emby control panel, see the content, streaming info, and the 10.x.x.x address. On the TrueNAS side, I can see the network traffic for the 10.x.x.x port increase commensurate with the streaming bitrate. However, if I close Emby Player for Windows and open it again, I am no longer accessing the Emby Server through the 10.x.x.x connection because Emby Player has reverted to the 192.x.x.x connection. I just want the Emby traffic for my computer to go through that 10.x.x.x address. I don't recall this being an issue for the old Emby Theater app for Windows. In that app, I logged into my Emby account through the 10.x.x.x address, and it remembered that connection.
Luke 42078 Posted March 16, 2025 Posted March 16, 2025 Hi, does your emby server dashboard display the correct LAN and WAN addresses that you wish to use?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 16, 2025 Posted March 16, 2025 Probably need to see server log from startup showing network detection.
