ziga.zajc007 0 Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 Yesterday I was watching the same episode with subtitles normally using Chrome on MacOS. Today when I have upgraded Emby Server to 4.8.11.0 any build in subtitles in the same video stopped showing. Downloaded subtitles with Emby works / gets shown. But build in ones does not. mediainfo for those subtitles Text #1 ID : 3 Format : ASS Muxing mode : zlib Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Duration : 23 min 45 s Bit rate : 116 b/s Frame rate : 0.220 FPS Count of elements : 314 Compression mode : Lossless Stream size : 20.2 KiB (0%) Title : English Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No
Luke 42077 Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
ziga.zajc007 0 Posted March 11, 2025 Author Posted March 11, 2025 Tried watching and changing subtitles again between 07:30 and 07:31. I don't see any errors embyserver.txt
ziga.zajc007 0 Posted March 11, 2025 Author Posted March 11, 2025 The same issue is present on all videos with build in ASS subtitles.
ziga.zajc007 0 Posted March 11, 2025 Author Posted March 11, 2025 On Emby Android application ASS subtitles on HEVC work. Except on AV1 encodes which is a separated bug already reported.
ziga.zajc007 0 Posted March 11, 2025 Author Posted March 11, 2025 (edited) On Safari they work but most likely because of transcoding for both HEVC and AV1 Edited March 11, 2025 by ziga.zajc007
ziga.zajc007 0 Posted March 11, 2025 Author Posted March 11, 2025 Subtitles work on Emby Desktop application for Mac OS (2.2.36). But playing AV1 videos is really laggy on it, while on Chrome (same device) it is really smooth. This device does not have hardware AV1 decoder, but videos are encoded using "--fast-decode 1 --tile-columns 1" parameters which makes decoding a lot faster even on old devices without hardware AV1 decoder. I believe that I have already reported AV1 slow decoding problem in Emby Desktop application for Mac OS in another bug report.
Luke 42077 Posted March 12, 2025 Posted March 12, 2025 I tested Chrome on macOS and it seemed to be working just fine in my testing. Ass subtitles were displayed. Can you provide a copy of the video for testing? Do you have any browser extensions installed?
