Just discovered that the Emby Theater app has been replaced by the new Emby App, so I downloaded it.

Issue 1: the "Emby" titlebar is constantly visible at the top of the window, and it's not clear that hitting F11 is necessary to send Emby into fullscreen. The only way I knew to even try was because of knowing its web origins.

Issue 2: There is no minimize/maximize/close on the overlay anymore when a video is playing like Emby Theater had (or in the browsing screen)

It's a windows app and there's plenty of times that I need to minimize it without stopping my video, so I'm not sure why this feature is missing?

Similarly-

Issue 3: There is no volume slider on the overlay anymore like there was in Emby Theater.

I need to be able to quickly adjust the volume during playback without affecting the volume of the rest of the system or relying on "just turn the tv down." Not sure why this long-standing feature also disappeared?

Issue 4: I still cant type into the search box with a keyboard anymore.

This used to be possible but some time ago in Emby Theater I suddenly became forced to use the on-screen entry. I can understand this for a touch system, but I'm not sure why I am being prevented from using it as a textbox like any of the other textboxes in the app?

I'm running the app on Windows 11 if that matters. I have my display set to "TV" because that seems to be the only way to have it show in the horizontal style shown in the original Emby Theater screenshots instead of the "I'm looking at a webpage" style view that opening emby in a browser gives. Not sure if this is affecting it.

I'm hoping these issues can be resolved, as they're big thorns for adopting the new app as standard. :(

EDIT: I should mention that the whole F11 fullscreen issue would probably be addressed by the min/max/close returning, as that's how Theater went fullscreen previously.

hi, what overlay are you referring to?

Also what theme do you have enabled in the app?

They're using the TV theme to get the media library thumbnails into one scrolling horizontal row rather than using as many lines as necessary to show them all.  What they'd like is an option to do the same in Desktop mode.

I can see the point.

Also, as an aside, I can't see how anyone would tolerate using TV mode on a desktop.  For me, it makes everything more than twice as big...

Hi Luke,

The one that appears when you are watching a video and move the mouse. It has the media title, progress/scrub bar, back/forward play/pause, etc. It used to have min/max/close and a volume bar.

EDIT: I know I can double click to get the window out of fullscreen and show the min/max/close, but this introduces much more potential pauses from misclicks which would desync me from my friends when we're all watching the same movie on our hangout streams. Having the min/max/close present on the Emby window like Theater used to would fix this.

This I'll have to check when I get home today; even in the Theater days I'm not certain exactly what theme/setting was necessary to get the bigger items & horizontal layout to work.

It's on TV mode because the computer is hooked up to a TV and the horizontal look is much better to me than the vertical one. :)

Update: changing to either "auto" or "desktop" now gives me back the volume control bar (yay!) and I now have a [   ] on the controls to enter/exit fullscreen.  I'd rather that give me minimize access too but I can cope.

However now I can't view Emby in the large tiles horizontal mode at all, and the size of overlay controls seems to be a smaller scale than it is if you set the view type to tv.  Is it possible to get a controls scale option & a horizontal/vertical view toggle? It would be nice to separate the view style from the device type.

Hi, can you please show a screenshot example of what you're looking at?

Dont have access to a printscreen key at the moment so I took pics instead. :)

I tried to insert but it only let 1 insert at a time so they're attached. There's the vertical view (what I call "webpage style") that is the default for desktop view now, and then the horizontal "theater" view that brought me to emby originally.

The 2nd set are the differences in UI scale, but to be honest I'm ultimately fine with the smaller controls as long as they're all there. It would be nice to have the option of larger scale UI with all controls for a couple of my family that are not super nimble in their fine motor control anymore and like the big buttons, though.

The vertical/horizontal layout used to be an option (though it never seemed to work?) in the Theater app, so maybe it was removed in favor of the viewing device type.  I like the horizontal option though so it would be nice to be able to easily toggle to that independently of what device I'm viewing on. :)

EDIT: it wouldnt post with the pics for some reason ,let me shrink them down and see if that helps

What we can do is have it so that if you click outside of it, that will close it.

Click outside of it?

For example if you click Info then we could have it so that you can make it go away by clicking outside the info section.

it works just fine, and it has not been removed. It's only available in TV layout.

That would work, so long as clicking out doesnt pause. It would be nice to be able to disable thr click-anywhere pause.

Why can it not be made available in any other layout? Losing controls in the UI to have a different layout on the home interface seems completely arbitrary. Theater lost the ability to type with the keyvoard in the search box a while ago, and now it lost an onscreen volume control.
