SgtOtaku 2 Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 I'm currently migrating from Plex to Emby as a trial run to see if Emby performs more reliably than Plex. Unfortunately, I am encountering an issue in Emby that I haven't had in Plex in a long time: metadata issues. For some reason, while using TVDB as the metadata source, some specials that show up in the specials tap on TVDB, mainly movies, in my anime folder, as well as some anime in general, will identify as the correct anime, but will be unable to pull the correct metadata. For example, the digimon adventure movie (Digimon Digital Monsters S00E01) is pulling metadata for the description from some random kamen rider episode (I think) but not able to pull the name. A Korean anime that pulls up in TVDB, "When I woke up I became a bagel girl," pulls the correct episode names and Anime names, but gives descriptions for the first 9 episodes from Rick And Morty (don't know what season). Check out the images for a better view of what I'm seeing. Plex pulled the metadata perfectly from the same source. Refreshing the Metadata does not correct it. I just started establishing the Emby install today, and I'm not done importing the files yet. It's taking forever due to the amount I have, and Emby hasn't even started on the TV shows and Movies files yet. I'm running this via a docker on an Unraid install. Can anyone give me advice on how to get emby to pull the data correctly?

Luke 42078 Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Hi there, how does that compare to what's on tvdb for the same season and episode number?
pwhodges 2012 Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Can you show us your folder structure and file naming? There are differences between what Plex handles and what Emby handles. Paul
Tank_Killer 7 Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Im not sure what changed by my metadata doesnt seem to be working at all really. I made no config changes and it wont download cover art or information. I have tried manually requesting the data by using "identify" and feeding it the imdb number but that doesnt work either.

Need to see server log for specific example. But would suggest verifying library metadata/image provider settings.

Paul My folder structure is [media library]\[show name]\[season X]\[showName - SxxExx - EpisodeTitle {source/quality}.{format} get rid of the brackets, and replace the placeholders here with the info. example: Anime\Digimon Digital Monsters\Specials\Digimon Digital Monsters - S00E01 - Digimon Adventure BD 1080p.mkv The example may not be the exact name, but that’s how it’s laid out. I’ll add a screenshot when I get home from work.

Apparently, for the bagel girl anime, there is no actual episode description. for Digimon, the correct description is in the movie section, redirected from the specials listing of the anime. I am unable to screenshot or paste right now for some reason, so I’ll add an image of the correct description when I get home

SgtOtaku 2 Posted March 11, 2025 Author Posted March 11, 2025 I think I found my problem: leftover .nfo files from a failed attempt to run jellyfin. I manually deleted the .nfo files that jellyfin had created and refreshed the metadata, and Emby pulled the correct data. I haven't confirmed this for ALL the data, since I have a large library and I'm only 1/3 through my files, but all the digimon files updated to the correct metadata after clearing the .nfo files. 1 1
