gerlong 0 Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 Hello, I have a Library running STRM files. The problem is that even I update the content in a file, Emby keeps running the old version. It's weird, because the old file is not any more in my Drive, It's only the new versio, but Emby still run the old one. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance.
Luke 42078 Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 hi, what do you mean by "keeps running the old version" ?

I used to have a TV show without subtitles (I'm from Spain), and now I upload the same TV show with the subtitles embeeded. I completely replace the file. The old one without subtitles is not any more in my drive or even in the trash bin. The strm file is the same, but I changed the content, pointing to a new link with the new file. When I run the file from the Drive is OK, but when I run the strm file in Emby, still shows the version without the subtitles, I mean the old one.
Luke 42078 Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 What exactly makes you think it's the version without subtitles?

Because ths subtitles are not there, meaning is the old version without subtitles. I attach 2 images: Number 1 is how the files shows if I run it directly from the drive, with the subtitles embeded. Number 2 is how it shows in Emby, reading a STRM file that points to the same file link.
Luke 42078 Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 It’s playing the new file but it’s not aware that it’s different from the old one. Try refreshing the metadata on it.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 Sounds like Emby already had media info for the old media per the strm file. I would assume there is no way for Emby to know you changed the orginal file and will require you to manually Refresh the entire show/episode as Luke mentioned but you can test on one file. But you should be able to tell by looking at the Media Info Emby is providing per episode if updated or not. 1

Already done, but It doesn't work. I don't understand what's going on. I even tried changing the strm file (I mean creating a new one), but still shows the one without subtitles. Seems like in some cache is still the old one and continues playing that one...

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

Thanks! Hello. The problem seems to be when the file the strm points to is an mkv. When it points to the same file in mp4 format it works fine. But the problem is in Emby, as when I run the mkv file outside of Emby, it displays it fine with embedded subtitles.
Carlo 4561 Posted March 5, 2025 Posted March 5, 2025 Did you change the URL entered in the strm file? If so Emby Server should see the strm file as changed and reload the URL. You should be able to scroll down to the media info section of the movie/show detail screen to see the URL it loaded from the strm file. It should also show up if editing the metadata for the content as well.

Sorry. @gerlong Please attach the server log from the time frame the activity occurred. See the section below titled Emby Server Logs. Please supply the full and complete log file, and avoid attempting to extract relevant sections. Everything is relevant to us. If a server transcoding log (ffmpeg log) was also generated during playback (in the server logs folder), please attach that as well.

When you notice this, try skipping to the end of the video until it ends and start replaying at the beginning. This should refresh the media info in Emby. This seems to be only an issue with MKVs not encoded with network streaming and when the URL stays the same but the source changes. MP4s format dont have issues. You could also edit the URL to the wipe the Emby media info and fix it back. 1
