Errors with QuickSync, not with VAAPI

For some reason in emby I need to select everything to use VAAPI instead of quick sync. My test I just did now to confirm this is still an issue was switch HVEC to use QS and disabled VAAPI in emby transcoding settings. I attempt to play The Lost Boys in 4K HVEC on Firefox browser. It will give me the "no streams available" error. If I disable QS and switch HVEC back to VAAPI in emby settings I can then play the file no problem.

i5-12600K running on Unraid and had no issues using QS in plex, so I think that I must be missing something. Can someone please help me get QS working?

Just checking back to see if you can tell what kind of unusual thing is causing this @Lukethanks.  I don't get why quicksync would be causing errors when other containers can use it etc.

Sorry I was trying to figure this out by looking in settings and doing research, I don't know enough about it but it sounds like that would be only with HDR content?  

No this is with any content if that helps.   Essentially if I don't use VAAPI   I cannot playback anything at all.

Whoa,  I just found the tone mapping menu. 

 

Did something change related to this in emby server recently?  I did an unraid container update to emby and right now everything is working with VAAPI deselected for every file type and QuickSync selected for them all.  Amazing!   I just would love to know if its probable the emby server update fixed it.

 

 

Now my next question is, would that be the recommended config to leave VAAPI completely unslected for all types and have QS be selected for them all?  It seems to be loading a lot faster aka working how I'd have expected.  Tone mapping on or off seems to still work wonderful now!

 

I can't wait to test this on my Apple TV and see if it fixed the other oddities like playback of old WWF videos, if so I can finally retire Infuse.  This is great

Hi, this is our default nowadays so you shouldn't have to do anything, but if things are working well for you then I would suggest leaving your options as they currently are. Thanks.
