Clarification on Emby Premiere License Requirements for Media and IPTV

Hi everyone,

I need some clarification on Emby Premiere licensing, specifically regarding playback limits on different devices. I have a mix of media and IPTV on my server and want to ensure I understand the licensing rules correctly.

Here are my questions:

1. Media Playback Without a License – If I am only using Emby to stream my own media (no Live TV, no DVR, no IPTV, no downloads, no hardware transcoding, etc.), do I need an Emby Premiere license?

2. Android TV / Fire TV Device Limit – The feature matrix states that full playback is free for up to 5 devices on Android TV and Fire TV. Is this 5 devices per server or 5 devices per user? If I reach this limit, do I need Emby Premiere for additional Android TV/Fire TV devices?

3. Apple TV & Live TV Restriction – If I have IPTV enabled on my server but I disable Live TV access for a specific user, can they still stream their personal media content on Apple TV without needing Emby Premiere? Or does the presence of IPTV on the server automatically require a license, even if the user doesn't have access to it?

4. Mobile App Unlock vs. Premiere – For iOS/Android apps, does the one-time app unlock purchase grant full playback only on that device, or does it apply across multiple devices under the same user account? If I have multiple users with mobile devices, would each need to purchase the unlock separately?

5. Best Practices for IPTV Without Licensing Issues – If I want to avoid requiring Emby Premiere for users who only stream media and not IPTV, is it enough to disable Live TV access for them? Or does the presence of IPTV channels on the server still impact licensing?

I’d appreciate any clarification from the community or the Emby team. Thanks!

Hi.

1 - That depends on what app you are using: Emby Premiere Feature Matrix

2 - Per server

3 - Only the Premiere feature will be restricted

4 - In-app purchases (which is what the unlock is) are per app/store.  So they can travel with the same app store account (not Emby account).

5 - Isn't this the same question as 3?

Please let us know if that answers all your questions.

Is there a limit to Emby Premiere?

I currently purchased the 75 device limit license for my emby server. Will the 3rd question still require use up a license?

That depends on which app is used.  Some require Premiere for playback.

As per the matrix, only Android TV would require the license.
Understood now. Thanks!
