Hello,  emby client on Android TV (actually on device Kinhank G1) does not play audio if DTS is the format of the audio track. Video's fine, but mute.

VLC does play the DTS audio though. This concerns ANY DTS format.

I've seen it's common, will you solve it in the future?

Thanks

Paolo

Hi Emby client for android TV is the current one 3.4.36 on a Kinhank G1 that plays fine same DTS files using VLC.

I don't think screenshot might useful describing a no-audio playback. Server version is 4.8.10.0 on Synology DS920+ and delivers DTS tracks fine on Google Chrome or a Sony Android TV.

I do attach the log of the first session I tried...

Thanks

Paolo

Hi, can you try sideloading the latest build and let us know how that compares?

Thanks.

Noticed that despite the 3 minutes of (mute) play the media isn't listed on "Continue to play..." section...

Hi.  Are you sure this isn't an issue with the device?  I've seen many complaints on the web about this not working.

What I can tell is that plays the same file with DTS Audio track with VLC on the same HDMI output. So, no, I don't think is the device...

VLC is probably decoding the stream itself.

Can you please play that item for a few seconds with the Android TV app and then follow the instructions to send a log from the app?

Hi ebr,

Enabling an external player, VLC, does play the audio. But it does not remember the point where you stopped seeing the video, thus rendering the overall experience less enjoyable...

If you follow above posted link there's a section on how to submit those:

Quote

Emby for Android TV/Fire TV and Emby for Roku Logs

These apps have the option to send an app log to us electronically.  You enter the settings page and turn on the "Debug Options".  Now there will be a new option on the user menu at the top of your app home page labelled "Send Log".

  Quote

If you are using Android TV/Fire TV and your problem is with playback, please send the log directly from the playback OSD.
There will be an option on the "cog" menu.

Reproduce your problem and then use this button to send the log.  Then add the following information to your report in the forum:

  • Exactly what you were doing and what happened.  Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem
  • The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5)
  • The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

Hi, up above Luke asked

Download https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html3.4.46 -03/07/2025 Support playback correction 3.4.45 -03/05/2025 Play vtt subtitles directly without conversion from the server 3.4.44 -03/03/2025 Fix some of the quality settings not saving 3.4.43 -02/28/2025 Add convert unsupported audio option 3.4.42 -02/26/2025 Fixes related to login

Which I did. So, please tell exactly what do you need, which version. I enabled the logs from the settings, seen no debug nor options to send the log directly. Just "share".

There are two apps in the store, standard Emby for Android app and Emby for AndroidTV app. You are using/sideloaded the first one. @ebrasked for logs from the second one (which you can install in parallel with the one you currently have, they'll happily co-exist).

Hi everyone I think I solved. I installed the Android TV app (that was installed in the first instance) and disabled the DTS* passthrough.
Audio was played.

Thanks anyone.

You might close this.

P.S. Kinhank G1 is good enough for Emby.

Hi.  That confirms my suspicion.  The decoder implementation on the device is faulty.  That was the option I was going to ask you to try to confirm this.

Okay, then the way it reports its capabilities is faulty :).

Glad you got it going.
