Question about Image Capture

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but how about IMAGE CAPTURE? - Some of the first dvds I ripped were ripped at 720X480 not thinking about the black bars fpr 4:3 video otherwise it should have been 640x480.. so emby image capture senses the black bars but then stretches the horizontal to  720 instead of 640. The same file dropped in vlc media player also removes the black bars and stretches the image back to 720 but then stretches the height to keep the 4:3 ratio.

I can paste a pic that's 720x480 or I can just say it, otherwise how do I show an example? I'd imagine you would find an old school 4:3 DVD and rip it 720x480 and use image extract to recreate.

HI, can you please show the screenshot within Emby? Thanks.

I just noticed it looks normal on the screen where it horizontal, but when you "go to season" and see the vertical screen, that where it's stretchedScreenshot2025-02-28at13-57-4077-SUNSET-STRIP.png.fe46d14e95d4a9a196150506bed0b4df.pngScreenshot2025-02-28at13-59-1177-SUNSET-STRIP.png.23c1b50f48b2e2040bc189063de6084e.png

I did forget to consider the version I had when it was "captured"

So what happens is that horizontal episode list is displayed in 4:3 containers. Images are either cropped or stretched to fit, depending on how close they are to 4:3.

If they're very far off, it will crop and preserve aspect ratio. If they're "close enough", it will just stretch to fit.

anyway u want to do it doesn't really matter to me but I was figuring if image extract actually recognizes the black bars, then eliminates them, then it should realize the image was intended as 4:3 to begin with as VLC seems to do. On this series I'm picking the exact scenes I want with vlc for the thumbnails anyway.

Yes I guess that's something to think about. Keep those black bars would actually help in preserving aspect ratio, although in other cases they might be undesirable.

The choice is yours... I just spot things and bring it up for no other reason than that. Well sometimes I might want help :)
