Suggestions for new library structure

Hello together,

currently I'm working on the reconstruction of my Emby libraries.
In the forum here, I've alredy found some threads, but unfortunately nothing really appropriate for me.
I have Movies, TV shows, Documentation TV shows, Documentation Movies, Concerts and Music both, as folder in the file system as well as libraries in Emby.

I think, for music I have fonud a good Structure: I'm using here the structure for „Complex Folder Structur“, i.e. \Musik\Letter\Artist Name\Album Name (Year)\Songs.

Unfortunately for Movies and TV shows I'm still looking for a good structure.

Another aspect is, that I have some movies in different quality (1080 vs 4K) and in different versions (original Cinema, Extended version).
For this issue I found the Auto-Version-Grouping“ Plugin which fits quite well for this purpose.
But nevertheless, also for this aspect I need a better or cleaner filesystem structure.

And one further question: Are you using the quality in the movies filenames? Right now, I have the pure movie name and the release year in the filenames.
Each move is named according the "Emby Naming Guide".

I'm looking forward for your suggestions and ideas for improving my library and filesystem structure !

Thanks in advance

Hello Luke,

Yes, I have. All movies and series are imported via the “Auto Organize” plugin.
I could actually solve my problem with sorting in collections (Problems with the sorting order) with the “Auto-Version-Grouping” plugin. But now I don't have the right idea how to set up my library.
So I wanted to ask how the community does it.

How have you setup the libraries in Emby library setup? Is it one library or two?

Hello Luke,

I have a separate library for everything.
Films, concerts and documentaries are set up as a film library.
Series, documentary series are set up as a series library.

I have set up the directory structure on the system in the same way.

As I said, I have no idea how to bring different resolutions and editions into a “proper” structure.

I could imagine that as a directory structure, but I really don't know.:
Movies
- 4k
  -- Original Version
    --- Movie
  -- Extended Version
    --- Movie
- FHD
  -- Original Version
    --- Movie
  -- Extended Version
    --- Movie
- HD
  -- Original Version
    --- Movie
  -- Extended Version
    --- Movie

Because if I also wanted to restrict the availability of libraries, I would have to add an additional layer between the version and the movie.

Do you want the editions to be automatically grouped together?

Posted

Yes, I would like to do that.

I have currently set it up in my environment as described in the Movie Naming Guide, Multi-Version Movies.
For example:
/Movies
  /Star wars (1977)
  /Star wars (1977)/Star Wars (1977) - Original Cinema Version.mkv
  /Star wars (1977)/Star Wars (1977) - Remastered Version.mkv

However, the grouping integrated in emby resulted in the error that the sort order in collections is incorrect (Problems with the sorting order).
While searching for a solution, I came across the Auto-Version-Grouping plugin. Although this is not quite perfect either, but that's another topic.

OK I think that is the way to go. We should be able to get that other issue resolved.

Hello Luke,

thanks for the cooperation.
I have in the post Problems with the sorting order added my entry.
As I am more of an advocate of working with the built-in options rather than plugins or additional software, I will close this thread. Since everything was related to the problem with the sorting order 😉

Thank you
