Updated and lost Movies

I've been using Emby for a long time without issue but this one got me.

I updated Emby today on my Synology NAS DS720+. My Media has always been sorted by "Media" (homepage) then breakdown to "Movies" and "TV Shows". After the update the "Media" on the homepage is still there, but when I go into it it is now "The Movies That Made Us" and "TV Shows". The Movies That Made Us is referring to a TV Show that I don't even have. When I click on it it takes me to that "series" but it's not really the series. Instead all of the seasons are my movies, but only about 330 of the over 1200 that I have.

Tried creating a new library on the homepage for just movies but no media is ever scanned. Tried another library with my original setup as media but scans the same, movies that made us and tv shows.

Anybody have anything similar to this happen? What other info would I need to share to get some help with this?

Thanks a lot.

**Edit**

Just noticed the amount of "seasons" it lists is the full 1200+ movies but only the 330 or so are unwatched.

What content type is your "Movies" library? How many libraries have you created and with which paths? Can you share a screenshot of your Settings>Library tab in the sidebar?

I've only ever had 1 library, Media, in which there is a folder for Movies and a folder for TV Shows.

Wild guess would be one of your number-titled or part-in-title or season-in-title movies is breaking parser causing Emby to treat parent movie folder as a TV show.

One possible workaround would be to add subfolders separately as library paths, i.e.:

/volume1/Media/Movies

/volume1/Media/Tv shows

instead of single library path:

/volume1/Media

Another would be to have separate Movies and TV shows libraries with respective content-type set on library creation.

Edit: Is your "Movies" subfolder multi-movie folder or each movie has its own subfolder?

I tried to add a new library as /volume1/Media/Movies but no media was ever found. The media is definitely still there.

All movies are in the own subfolder.

Just strange that I've ran it this way for years without an issue.

I'm building another library in Emby now as /volume1/Media/Movies just to try again.

You can't have two different content-type libraries pointing to the same content, whichever was scanned/ingested first will cause those items to be treated as such (in your case, as TV shows), they'll never show in another library.

You need to either:

add subfolders separately as library paths, i.e.:

/volume1/Media/Movies

/volume1/Media/Tv shows

instead of single library path:

/volume1/Media

or

have separate Movies and TV shows libraries with respective content-type set on library creation

hi, it sounds like you are better off splitting movies and tv shows into separate folders and libraries, no?

Alright. I added 2 new libraries. I did /volume1/Media/Movies and /volume1/Media/TV Shows.

The TV Shows populate media but the movies don't populate anything still.

I've had the "Mixed Content" for the last 8 or so years with no problems until now.

Hi, in order for the above to work, you will need to remove the library pointing to /Media, based on what GrimReaper said.

Still waiting for a full scan to complete. Removed all libraries and added only /volume1/Media/Movies and /volume1/Media/TV Shows. So far looks like it's finding the movies. Looks like it's using the file names instead of the Titles so far.

I'll let it finish and let you know how it turns out.

Thank you.

Alright, all back up and running. Just need to spend some time redoing the meta data for most of the movies. The file name somehow got added to the sort name.

Thanks a lot for the help.

That would most likely be do to movie folder naming.

I use this for my movies, and that takes a lot of the guess work out.

Folder Moonwalker (1988) {TmdbId-13192}
File : Moonwalker (1988) {TmdbId-13192}.mkv
