Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 Has anyone else gone through this? I switched to fiber yesterday. Unfortunately, they did not inform me that the new modems do not offer a public id address to wifi routers. It only gives my router a private ip. This to me sounds insane, but they refuse to budge on it. Any ideas how to gain external access still?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 (edited) Odds are up are now on a cgnat. Different fiber network but will require the same tracert test to confirm. Or need to contact them and possibly pay more money for static ip. Edited February 23, 2025 by Happy2Play 1

Their gateway/modem could also be a router which by default would be in NAT mode and giving private IP's on the LAN side. Many have a bridge or passthrough mode that is not the default. Some providers have a separate ONT with an RJ-45 port and it might be possible to plug your router directly.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 23, 2025 Author Posted February 23, 2025 (edited) yes Im pretty sure the new modem is cgnat. this is from canyouseeme: this is from optimum: this is from my router: Edited February 23, 2025 by seanbuff removed public IP

I do not understand why. They claim it is already in bridge mode.

But if it's in bridge mode then it's possible it restricts that to a specific port on the gateway, so make sure to use that port. If they are using CGNAT then their gateway, if it's a router, would not be getting a public IP. This is another thing to check.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 23, 2025 Author Posted February 23, 2025 i believe it is a gateway modem
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 23, 2025 Author Posted February 23, 2025 I cannot access much about the modem. I only know it's in bridge mode because they told me it was. They can't show me anything to prove that.
Q-Droid 989 Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 Do you have a make and model of the device?
Solution Q-Droid 989 Posted February 23, 2025 Solution Posted February 23, 2025 It appears that LAN port 4 is the one to use when in bridge mode. Did you try that? And did you try rebooting the gateway after they changed it?
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 23, 2025 Author Posted February 23, 2025 ha, lan 4?? optimum had me try 1 2 And 3, and mentioned nothing of 4. I'll try it. fingers crossed.
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 23, 2025 Author Posted February 23, 2025 (edited) ok i think I'm a lot closer now. this is the router ip after choosing lan 4: but this is what automatically emby lists: Edited February 24, 2025 by seanbuff removed public IPs
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 24, 2025 Author Posted February 24, 2025 Also the LAN on my router is 192.168.0.1, as shown. but in optimum it lists the LAN of my modem as 192.168.1.1. is that fine? or a problem
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 24, 2025 Author Posted February 24, 2025 (edited) Ok i restarted emby. now the correct wan ip shows up: and if i click that link on my computer it opens fine. but if i try to connect remotely on my phone, the server cannot be found Edited February 24, 2025 by seanbuff removed public IP
Bigmack3000 107 Posted February 24, 2025 Author Posted February 24, 2025 ok, probably too many updates from me, but i removed the server from my phone app, then reconnected on wifi, and it brought over the new correct wan access as well. I think I'm all good for now. Thanks everyone! 1
