Hi,

I have the ipad Air running 12.5.7 with the ios app which I purchased on 29th May 2024. It was always working fine.

The only thing I did recently was update it from the original version and now it opens then shutsdown straight away.

I tried removing it then downloading it from my purchases but it still happens.

Could I get the version of the app that I purchased as it seems to be downloading the latest version from my purchases.

Thanks.

Dave

Hi, yes this is an iOS 12 issue that we are looking into. Thanks.

Thanks Luke. Would it be possible to get the older version while you are working on this issue?

Unless the fix is out soon? :)

Hi Luke,

Sorry to bother you again but is there a way I could get the version I downloaded till this is sorted out.

Thanks!

Hi, we have a change that we found for iOS 12 that we're hoping will resolve this. Please let us know how things go following the next update to Emby for iOS. Thanks !

Hi Luke,

Unfortunately the same thing happens. You see the Emby logo then it crashes.

I deleted the app restarted the ipad and reinstalled it but same thing happened.

This sounds like a compatibility issue—iOS 12.5.7 is quite outdated, and newer app updates often drop support for older iOS versions. Unfortunately, the App Store only serves the latest version unless the developer specifically allows legacy builds. You might try reaching out directly to the app developer to see if they can enable the older version for your device.

Hi Luke

All seems working now with latest update! Amazing!

BUT... its asking me to 'Unlock Feature'. I pressed the "Restore Purchase" / I purchased this app, but nothing happens. I deleted the app and reloaded it from my purchased section in the app store but its still asking me to unlock. I am using the same account as purchased.

Thanks again.

A lot of newer app updates just aren’t fully compatible with those older versions anymore, even if they technically still “install.” They often crash right after opening, exactly like you’re describing.

Unfortunately, Apple’s App Store doesn’t let you directly choose which version of an app to download from your purchase history — it’ll always try to grab the latest one. The only workaround I know is if the developer still supports “legacy downloads.” In that case, deleting the app and reinstalling it might prompt you with a message saying something like “Would you like to download the last compatible version?” But if that doesn’t appear, it usually means the developer removed that older build.

The app now opens and runs properly. The issue I have now is that its asking me to unlock the app and nothing happens when I do. It's a separate issue. Luke said he will look into it.

Thanks

Yeah, that makes sense — if Luke is already checking the license issue, you’re on the right track. Just to add, for older iPads or devices stuck on iOS 12, another option some users try (purely for testing or backup purposes) is installing apps through trusted third-party stores that still host legacy builds.

For example, ScarletiOSStore is one of the few that sometimes allows sideloading compatible versions of apps without requiring the latest iOS. It’s not an official Apple store, but it can help when the App Store no longer serves older builds. Of course, you’d want to use it cautiously and only for legitimate apps you already own.

Misinformation Emby only supply app's to official apps stores as of this moment.

If you find them other places that official app stores or known good outlet's like the officiel GitHub or Emby's own download page, they might be hacks.

@danielmartinhq You were told just this right here.
