wkl_lau 0 Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Hi I just notice my Emby (4.8.10.0) is not using HW transcoding, I have checked and Emby-premiere key is there. While playing HEVC encoded file it used to show a green chip icon but now it only say Directplay. Also nvidia-smi showing no process running. When I check the hardware-detection log I notice the following: Devices": [ { "DeviceIndex": 0, "DeviceInfo": { "VendorName": "NVIDIA Corporation", "DeviceName": "TU104GL [Quadro RTX 4000]", "SubsytemVendorName": "Dell", "VendorId": 4318, "DeviceId": 7857, "SubsytemVendorId": 4136, "SubsytemDeviceId": 4768, "DevPath": "/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:02:00.0", "DrmCard": "/dev/dri/card1", "DrmRender": "/dev/dri/renderD128", "IsEnabled": 1, "IsBootVga": 0, "Error": { "Number": -1, "Message": "Failed to initialize VA /dev/dri/renderD128. Error -1" When I check the docker setup guide [1] I notice it says I need to install nvidia-container-runtime ?? I never need to install that...(Back in Truenas Scale 22.x) Any help is appreciated. wkl_lau 0 Posted February 19, 2025 Author Posted February 19, 2025 Hi I have found the reason. Actually Emby was able to hw transcode, the problem is that I wasn't aware that FireFox can now accept HEVC, so no transcode (sw or hw) is needed. To everyone who is troubleshooting hw transcoding issue, make sure you client CANNOT play HEVC (so to force Emby to transcode). If you use Firefox, you can disable HEVC support by following this Enable/Disable HEVC settings in Firefox
