chuwz 11 Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Hi, before discussing this there is a caveat, I don't use Emby for Android TV, I use Emby for Android's TV mode Currently, Emby for mobile is free, TV mode is paid, mobile is not completely free, but enough for daily use. This leads to the need to buy $119 worth of all-platform Premiere if we want to use TV mode properly, which is too much. Plex is just fine, it offers the all-platform Plex Pass, a $119.99 value. But it also offers a single-platform pay for $4.99, so I purchased the $4.99 package on the App Store and Play Store, which is more than enough for my needs. I know this is something you're already doing on iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS, we need to spend $4.99 for Emby on Apple TV. So why not extend this measure to Android TV?
Luke 42077 Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Hi there. We work very hard on Emby and we thank you for your support.

It does require either Premiere or an app unlock for just playback. 16 hours ago, chuwz said: This leads to the need to buy $119 worth of all-platform Premiere if we want to use TV mode properly, This is not correct either. The app now allows up to 5 free TV devices for just playback. More than that and you need Premiere but there is a monthly option for $4.99/mo. Thanks for your support.

Hi, maybe I didn't express myself clearly, what I meant was: would you be willing to roll out a package on Android TV for a one-time buyout of only $4.99, like you did on iOS and Apple TV. If I understand Emby's payment policy on iOS, Apple TV correctly: You can use Apple TV by purchasing the $119 Premium Lifetime, or you can subscribe to Premium for $4.99 per month to use Apple TV, but you can also pay a one-time fee of $4.99 for a single platform of Apple TV to just use it properly on Apple TV. Premium is all-platform, while single-platform one-time payments are only for a single platform I wish it was the same on Emby TV mode, we don't need a $119 or $4.99 a month subscription, just a $4.99 one-time payment to work properly on a single Android platform
ebr 16169 Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Sorry, our current policy is to provide free playback for a normal family situation. Beyond that requires Premiere. FYI - there is no one-time unlock for Apple TV either.

So I am in the situation now that I can't upgrade my license anymore and I've reached the device limit. So even if I want I can't support you anymore because I do not have any option to do that. Wondering why you do not provide a yearly inapp purchase or similar like Infuse does. I have to move some users to Jellyfin now, what else should I do O_o BR Edited February 1 by horstepipe

horstepipe 422 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) I will tell some of my users to move to VidHub. The price is very fair, it is available for all platforms, setup is easy, direct plays everything I tested so far and you notice after 5 minutes of usage that somebody who is really using it designed the UI. No Live TV or audio support though. BR Edited February 7 by horstepipe
