sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I am seeing the filenames listed as episode names .... struggling to figure out why. My Emby is running in a docker container on a Synology NAS (perhaps this is germane). I made a small test library with this folder structure: Test Folder - TV / The Good Place (2016) / Season 1 Season 2 And have files that are within the Season 1 and Season 2 folders. These files are named along these lines: The.Good.Place.S01E01.1080p.BluRay.X264-SHORTBREHD.mkv The Good Place S01E01 1080p.BluRay.X264-SHORTBREHD.mkv I thought I was following the rules, but the names of the episodes come up as: (not to mention that the folder art is also missing for some reason). I also am not sure that performing a Library Scan on a single library (using the three dots... menu) actually works. Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated! I have been struggling with this for weeks. Hate to have to try and go back and make Plex work!
GrimReaper 4739 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 (edited) That show doesn't seem to be identified at all - maybe something is blocking your outgoing connections or you're geoblocked? If you three-dot>Identify on show level, are you getting any results? Post server log. How to Report a Problem Edit: What content-type is that library? What did you insert as library path(s)? sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Thanks so much for rapid reply. Here is a typical 'three dot' selection on one of the episodes; I don't see the 'Identify' option: I am not sure how to determine outgoing connections or geoblock .... I certainly have an outside user seeing much the same as I do. Content type is Tv Shows, as you can see. Uploaded Log. Again, thanks a lot! embyserver.txt

You can't identify episodes (or seasons), just TV shows. Try it again on TV show level three-dot menu. 15 minutes ago, GrimReaper said: maybe something is blocking your outgoing connections or you're geoblocked? All of your outgoing connections are timing-out. Neminem 1518 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I looks like something is blocking internet access to Emby server. 2025-02-13 00:00:30.527 Info HttpClient: POST https://mb3admin.com/admin/service/registration/validate 2025-02-13 00:00:30.527 Info OpenSubtitles: Logging into OpenSubtitles-Emby 2025-02-13 00:00:30.527 Info HttpClient: GET https://api.opensubtitles.com/api/v1/infos/languages 2025-02-13 00:00:50.528 Error HttpClient: Connection to https://api.opensubtitles.com/api/v1/infos/languages timed out 2025-02-13 00:00:50.529 Error HttpClient: Connection to https://mb3admin.com/admin/service/registration/validate timed out 2025-02-13 00:00:50.531 Error OpenSubtitles: Error from https://api.opensubtitles.com/api/v1/infos/languages
sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 I am running Proton VPN, but I _think_ that these are the only apps actually using it:
sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Sorry, thought 'show' meant 'episode'. You are correct, NOTHING in the Identify section. My Emby instance on the NAS ... should connect out through my router without touching any of my browsers which are in the VPN inclusion list, right? Nothing to do with the Emby instance on the server?

Nothing to do with the Emby instance on the server? In theory - yes, though it is impossible to know how all the routers and all the VPNs in the world would/will behave. For starters, I'd check connections with VPN excluded/out of the equation. There might be something else in your particular system that's blocking those outgoing requests, but you have to start troubleshooting somewhere - VPN seems like an obvious choice. sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Yes, I just disconnected the VPN. How can I quickly check if it makes a difference? Scan Library? Update Metadata?

sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 OK: let's stick with identify, now that I know where it is and it seems like a fundamental function that needs to work! No joy; nothing filling in despite me turning off VPN.

Edit: Is your docker instance in host or bridge mode? Edited February 13, 2025 by GrimReaper Append
sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 LOL. I'm flattered that you think I can answer your Docker question. The only Emby related stuff i entered into my router was port forwarding: You know, I would probably feel better if I started fresh on a dedicated mini-pc ... run Emby on it, rather than in a mysterious Docker container on my NAS. Is that feasible? To actually completely start from scratch, using a mapped network drive on the mini-PC to access the media files? embyserver.txt
sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 It would appear that the Emby docker is NOT in bridge mode:

It surely is, I'd guess number of users are running their servers in that configuration (and your mini-PC is likely more powerful that your Synology which might come-in handy in the future). You can also install native server from Synology package center or install it manually.
sangej01 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 I think I'll give it a go .... new install on a virgin mini-pc; just pointing at the network shares with media. Oh, while I've got your very patient ear, do either of those formats matter? The one with spaces in between words vs. periods? Also, are enclosing folders for EACH EPISODE allowed? sometimes shows have that configuration when I download them. And finally, does Scanning Library on a specific library (using it's three dots menu) JUST scan that one library? Thanks so much! I feel much more comfortable knowing your support is so readily available. I hate to bother you with stuff like this!

Generally not, as long as you follow any of the supported naming conventions. https://emby.media/support/articles/TV-Naming.html#episode-naming-conventions 5 minutes ago, sangej01 said: are enclosing folders for EACH EPISODE allowed? It is, though above has to be conformed with. 5 minutes ago, sangej01 said: does Scanning Library on a specific library (using it's three dots menu) JUST scan that one library? Correct.
