Destrox 0 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Hi, just started using Emby, and there's a function I would really appreciate, that is merge versions which is available on Jellyfin, is this the place to ask for this? Is it possible to implement it in emby?
Solution GrimReaper 4740 Posted February 13, 2025 Solution Posted February 13, 2025 You can merge movies in either of three ways: 1) Put all different files in same folder and follow naming convention for multi-version movies https://emby.media/support/articles/Movie-Naming.html#multi-version-movies 2) Multi-select and select "Group Versions" in three-dot menu 3) Use one of the community-made auto-Grouping plugins:
Luke 42078 Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 Automatically merging movies by Movie Db Id will be a built-in feature in the upcoming Emby Server 4.9 release. Thanks. 1

This is awesome news! I'm glad this is finally going to be a built-in feature rather than relying on plugins or having to manually group the versions by hand.

Thanks. Will it have the missing request of apply to specific libraries? And current option to ignore if locked?

Isn’t that what we have split version for? If you ignore when locked then that means you can’t use this feature and be able to lock metadata. Anyway the gripping will be an option on the library that can be turned off.

Just commenting at the request for per library option in the plugin topic and the plugin having ignore locked option. Looks like per library and/or per folder.
Luke 42078 Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 The current series grouping feature is per library, so I think that makes the most sense.

Just make sure Folder Based Access Control can be used so one mount can be to normal movies and another mount point is to 4K movies. The admin only needs to give permission to the 4K mount point to those who can play 4K content. When a person has access to a movie with both 1080 and 4K they get the dropdown choice for the version to use. Anyone without Folder access to the 4K mount point would not get a dropdown choice to choose the version to play that had the 4K version in it. PS We need a way to set the default version when files are merged. There seems to be no way to manipulate this at present. 1
