I am unsure of the specifics of each device and how they stream, that's part of why I use Emby over other solutions, Emby just worked ... I have tried disabling hardware transcoding with no resolution. I tried on a "clean install" on Emby with the same result. Only the Roku devices can't stream and it only started mid last week across both of my locations with an Emby server.

Hi, since it’s a remote connection perhaps the bitrate is still too high and needs to be further lowered?

Lowering from 3Mbps to 1Bps made no difference. To be clear, this also happens with my local content, not just remote content.

Hi, can we please see a local network example? thanks.

I just tried a clean install of Emby Server on a PC that never had it, then removed and re-installed the Emby app from one of the Roku devices and connected it to the new server. Same issue regardless of playback video quality settings on the Roku device. Streaming will not work. It is still working without issue to AppleTV, iOS, AndroidTV, and Web. There has to be something specific to Roku on the server or the Roku build of the Emby app that is an issue.

3 servers  across two different locations (one with all default settings), 5 Roku devices with the same issue, 2 AppleTV no issue, 2 AndroidTV no issue, and any Web browsers no issue.

We can't use our Roku with Emby for over a week now.

Local is now working on clean install, but remote streams still do not.

So that definitely would make us lean towards bandwidth/connectivity issues...

Examples?

If it is a bandwidth/connectivity issue why would the same 720p HD - 3Mbps setting work on all other devices?
I am about to reluctantly give up on Emby as half of my devices are not working with it and we seem to be gaining no ground in resolving.
Additional facts to consider, these Roku devices work perfectly in either JellyFin or Plex w/Xteve as I just tested both scenarios.
This again suggests it's not likely a bandwidth or connectivity issue, but an issue with Emby on Roku or the server's interaction with the devices.

Can we please see new examples?  The last one you showed us was clearly a network issue of some sort.

In this instance, your Roku lost the connection to your server.

Player error. Error Code: -2 Message: The connection timed out.

The logs all show the same error I already provided ... "non existing PPS 0 referenced" nothing new or different.

I guess I'll just wait for more people to report, maybe someone else reports the issue and has better logs that will assist in figuring it out. Or maybe I'll get lucky and an unrelated update resolves it.

I have given up on Roku devices with Emby after multiple years of working perfectly ...

I am now running a clean install of both Emby and Jellyfin on my main server at one location, and switched entirely to Jellyfin at the other ... while not ideal it is the only method for me to get functionality on both my AppleTV and Roku devices. Jellyfin does not have a native AppleTV app (the third party option is awful) but Emby has failed me when it comes to the multiple Roku devices across multiple servers.

Hopefully this gets resolved someday, but I could not deal with the broken functionality any more.

Hi, this ffmpeg log still shows cuda features being used. As a test, can you please disable hardware transcoding in server transcoding settings by selecting "No".

Then please try again and attach the emby server log. Thanks !

After months of frustration, I finally identified the cause of my troubles. For anyone who may experience a similar issue, this turned out to be caused not by Emby server or the Roku client, but by my reverse proxy.

Hi, what reverse proxy do you use? And what was the solution?

Nginx. Haven’t had a chance to troubleshoot the reverse proxy yet, for now I’m just satisfied with bypassing it.

OK. When you do I would suggest comparing your nginx settings to this:
