trevoragifford 1 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Recently I've been experiencing a strange issue with media playback through the Roku app. I've found the easiest way to reproduce the issue is if I start playback and then try to choose subtitles. After I make my subtitle selection the playback starts to buffer, then it gets stuck on 13% for a bit before displaying 'Playback Error - The connection timed out.'. Then shortly afterwards it boots me of the media details back to the list page and displays 'ContentNotAvailable'. Then if I attempt to start playback for that movie again, I'll get the same buffering and error behavior indefinitely. Other movies will play fine, however (unless I try to select subtitles for them too...). Only seems to be for external subtitles. MKV files with embedded subtitles seem to work fine. The only way I've found to get playback for the affected movie to work again is to reboot the server. I've tested on the web app and iOS app and I don't experience this behavior in either -- it seems to only be on Roku. I've tested on two different Roku devices and experienced the same behavior in each. I've attached my server log files. I sent the Roku logs ~10:47 PM tonight, 2/17/2025. The movie that was attempted to play was 'Rain Man' by user Trevor. embyserver-63874987488.txt ffmpeg-transcode-bc8d048d-ece8-4086-8202-6f933fbf04e6_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-20b68a3a-e61f-4859-b94a-4634e4193f52_1.txt embyserver.txt hardware_detection-63874987490.txt
ebr 16169 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Hi. Your two examples were with DVD_SUB: >>>>>> Subtitle Processing Steps for [0:2]: DVD subtitles Step Format Target Size DVD_SUBTITLE >> Subs: Bitmap 720x480 scale >> Video: UNKNOWN 720x-2 And both have this error repeated throughout: 20:38:44.430 subtitle_kickoff: call subtitle_resend_current 281 frame->format: 1 Unrepairable overflow! How were these items created?
trevoragifford 1 Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 Odd ... that was the Rain Man example? Its definitely supposed to be SRT. That one was in 480p in .MKV format with embedded DVD_SUB subtitles until recently when i removed it and replaced it with a 1080p version and SRT subs. Could that be related?

Then right off the bat is this overflow that cannot be fixed. Not sure if the iHD_drv_video.so failing is causing this error. Maybe @softworkzhas seen this happen before? ---- This link above might help. Seems similar. Edited February 13, 2025 by speechles

Neminem 1518 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 @trevoragiffordcan you do a full metadata refresh of the movie. Also switch to vaapi instead of qsv. Your hardware is old and cant hack it. 1

Neminem 1518 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Your logs suggests you are using linux
Neminem 1518 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 What OS are you running on ? Linux version 4.19.0-18-amd64

Thanks Hi, no ffmpeg logs are being generated. only embyserver.txt is being written to. I sent another copy of the Roku logs at 5:24 ET today, 2/16. User Trevor attempting to play 'Rain Man'.
ebr 16169 Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 In this instance, your Roku lost the connection to your server. Player error. Error Code: -2 Message: The connection timed out.
trevoragifford 1 Posted February 17, 2025 Author Posted February 17, 2025 Any ideas why? This doesn’t happen during playback from iOS or the web version.
PlasmaBurn 0 Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 (edited) I have two Emby servers at different locations (both Windows based), and multiple Roku devices and I am seeing the same behavior across all Roku devices, however in my logs on both servers, the error "non existing PPS 0 referenced" is all the logs show. This is not occurring on iOS, Web, or GoogleTV devices, only Roku. It has rendered all of my Roku devices unusable with Emby at this time. Roku devices start the stream, the error starts repeating in the server logs, and the Roku only shows rebuffing to 13% repeatedly until giving up after quite a while. This is a more widespread issue than one user, and seems to be effecting the Roku version of Emby only? Edited February 17, 2025 by PlasmaBurn

Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

What happens if you disable hardware transcoding or, if you've changed advanced options there, revert them to defaults?
PlasmaBurn 0 Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 I am unsure of the specifics of each device and how they stream, that's part of why I use Emby over other solutions, Emby just worked ... I have tried disabling hardware transcoding with no resolution. I tried on a "clean install" on Emby with the same result. Only the Roku devices can't stream and it only started mid last week across both of my locations with an Emby server.
