So it's not the emby check causing it.  Try it exporting to a folder that is not monitored by emby.

I tried to put strm outside emby dir and also uncheck emby library check, but after some times plugin begun emby became unresponsive.

If i watch top command i see a great use of resouces by emby

Hi, I’m also using Ubuntu but in a VM and had around 8gb ram allocated to it (not just emby running on it!). The early plugin versions would run fine but at some point it started to really push my system and I would get frequent slowdowns where the dashboard would no longer be responsive. The memory demand was far exceeding the available ram. I would have to stop the emby service manually. In hindsight I think it was still running but the IO was just taking all the resources. So I lowered the plugin resource to 75% and the scan was better but would take several hours.

Since then I’ve installed a SSD and memory usage has gone down to around 5-6gb and a fresh scan now takes less than 10 minutes creating a TV Show folder and extracting the full range of M3U files. I’m not extracting Movie strm’s just yet.

Hope some of that is useful!

@mickle026

I’ve run the plugin with the fix and it looks good so thank you, all the TV Shows I’ve checked so far are correctly collapsing into a single folder with the correct prefixes removed.

What are the edge cases you are worried the new code may break? So I can go through my library and check.

I am also thinking it's when I fixed the update and remove obsolete files function, that will have caused a resource usage increase.  So I am asking questions to get info on what's happening and where, so the next test would be to uncheck remove obsolete files and see if it is that.

Try this DLL
I have added code that adds heavier memory management, this makes the system aggressively manage the memory in use during heavy loads.

I have also added into the debugging section of the logs: Extra Verbose a log entry so you can see memory usage tracking as items are processed:

See it using and releasing here whilst adding items:

09.Apr.2025 - 05:24:12 Debugging: Memory used: 528 MB
.
09.Apr.2025 - 05:25:01 Debugging: Memory used: 458 MB
.
09.Apr.2025 - 05:26:05 Debugging: Memory used: 457 MB
.
09.Apr.2025 - 05:26:28 Debugging: Memory used: 464 MB
.
09.Apr.2025 - 05:27:00 Debugging: Memory used: 535 MB
.

09.Apr.2025 - 05:27:20 Debugging: Memory used: 442 MB

09.Apr.2025 - 05:28:59 Debugging: Memory used: 531 MB

09.Apr.2025 - 05:31:57 ====================== Item [100481] ===================================

You can see it being managed and might see where there might be a problem.

Also try running at lower cpu usage, like 50% and also see if turning OFF remove obsolete files helps.  Test all the different combinations.

DLL FAULTY, DELETED

If I point output folder outside emby plugin ends ok, both with or without emby check, but NOTHING IS WRITTEN IN OUTPUT FOLDER

If I point output folder inside emby library my system get stuck.

How many files exist already in your output directory?

This is reading the existing files before starting to process the m3u input.

Yes , send the logs via pm

My TV show library is being created, and everything has the correct thumbnails & titles even! I couldn't make it happen simultaneously with the movies; but that's for another day... I feel like I'm almost there, but it produces just a single folder & STRM file for all of the TV shows - So all of them have one season & one episode. Is there something obvious I'm missing to produce that kind of output? THANKS

Ah I see, I've not extracted any movies for a while now as they were working fine for me and I was concentrating on fixing the TV Shows, will run a test scan of them tonight and see what it produces.

if you don't have more episodes , take a look at your configs, you might be excluding them?
Run the plugin with verbose logging on, and look to see why they are ignored, it will tell you - Filtered by: "<Keyword goes here>"

if its due to the formatting of your episodes from your m3u provider please send me some example EXTINF lines (you can PM me them)

My Fault :(

a typo was causing it to fail before the output of strms., I am still checking the memory management, and some alterations to directory scanning.

I am almost done testing, I will post as soon as I can.

if its due to the formatting of your episodes from your m3u provider please send me some example EXTINF lines (you can PM me them)

I attached screenshots of what I'm seeing for each show, and how it shows the "Season 1" thumbnail, but only the ID as the title, and a single episode. That will be clearer than my written description.

I'm certainly getting plenty of "Invalid URL" messages in that log. Looks like it's only outputting the IMDB ID# instead of the full URL to the strm file.... though, fun fact - I added my API key from the TVMD site - so I think it should have used the ID from that database, no?

I added the #EXTINF example too; nothing private in there.

When I ran it for the movies, I think I checked an option to use IMDB, but I don't see it there now..honestly though I'm not sure if that option was ever there, if that's the default option, or what 😳. I want to ultimately use the split option to pull movies at the same time with 2 M3U URLs, but that's a bridge I can jump off of later.

THANK YOU for any help you may be able to provide!

I am still testing , and do not have time to confirm that this is all "ok" today

However, here is the DLL

Screenshot_10-4-2025_174028_localhost.thumb.jpeg.c1995818bc834e94000089a87217535c.jpeg

Full Extra Verbose mode will print lines like this:

10.Apr.2025 - 17:40:20 Debugging: [AddToContentListAsync] Memory used: 368 MB
10.Apr.2025 - 17:40:20 [AddToContentListAsync] Adding to m3uContents - Count = 3667

I would probably run at 50% CPU (to allow the system some cpu) and limit memory in a container, but the options are there, its up to you.
Ah yes, in the plugin, the CPU utilisation will be from the WHOLE System, not the container!

I will have to check this, I don't have time today, but don't panic I will make sure it is supported.

Can you send me your m3u file in a pm?

You can do find/replace with a text editor and replace username/password/providerURL if you don't want me to see that info.  I don't need them, i just need the m2u with the format that it is in.

This is ok like this, but send the whole file in a pm:
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="tt8740614" tvg-name="tt8740614" tvg-type="tvshows" group-title="The Residence (2025)" ,The Residence (2025) S01 E03
https://providerURL/username/password/tvshow/tt8740614/1/3

I am still testing , and do not have time to confirm that this is all "ok" today

However, here is the DLL

Full Extra Verbose mode will print lines like this:

10.Apr.2025 - 17:40:20 Debugging: [AddToContentListAsync] Memory used: 368 MB
10.Apr.2025 - 17:40:20 [AddToContentListAsync] Adding to m3uContents - Count = 3667

I would probably run at 50% CPU (to allow the system some cpu) and limit memory in a container, but the options are there, its up to you.
Ah yes, in the plugin, the CPU utilisation will be from the WHOLE System, not the container!

This version finished ok.

It took 4 hours and 21 minutes. I set 50% CPU

Now i'll try 75% and see what will happen

This might be a stupid question but does the plugin ignore metadata .nfo files and images for posters when it scans an existing directory and also when it’s removing obsolete files/directories?

@mickle026any updates if I can run this on mac? I've moved to using a windows server (since your plugin works really well) with UNC paths on mac. I'd prefer to have everything on one system (the M4 mini).

Everything is programmed to work across all operating systems.

You can try the settings above that I put in for docker to limit memory usage and CPU usage and see if that works.
