Fademidun 3 Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 Hello everyone, I'm new to Emby server and it seems to be consuming the space on my Synology. I have deleted almost 250-350 GB of data from the volume, deleted all files and folder in recycle bin, check metadata dir. and still no difference. I'm on version 4.8.10, installed on Synology with dedicated volume size of 4TB, now it's saying 611GB of 3.48TB free?? Any advise will be useful. How do I reclaim the space from this app? If I uninstall, will it give the space back? Thanks
Clackdor 109 Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 The emby server itself definitely isn't taking up that much space. I'm guessing you recently deleted some of your media and the space hasn't been freed up afterwards? Have you configured any kind of snapshots for that volume? If there are snapshots then space won't be freed until the retention period for old snapshots expires or they are manually deleted.
Fademidun 3 Posted February 10, 2025 Author Posted February 10, 2025 Thanks for your reply, I don't have snapshot configured and before installing Emby server, I used Synology media server but discontinued after new DSM update, every time I delete a video and empty recycle bin on previous app, I get an increase in the space on the volume, almost immediately but since, I have installed Emby, every time I upload video/data, the size decreases but never go up when I delete them
Fademidun 3 Posted February 10, 2025 Author Posted February 10, 2025 I have done the analysis of the drive/volume and have 43,676 Files, 584 folders of total size of 1.63TB (1,738,642,860,385 bytes) to be precise. this then should leave me with 2.2TB??? and not 611GB

Or are you deleting videos directly from the folder in DSM?
Fademidun 3 Posted February 12, 2025 Author Posted February 12, 2025 (edited) Hi It doesn't really matter the source of deletion, either from Emby server or directly from DSM or from the mapped drive on my desktop, the size doesn't change, however if I add files, to any dir, the size shrinks - Strange (for example if I copy 300GB of date to my video dir, the size reduces by 300GB, if I delete same amount of data/video, the size remain with no increase, even after deleting and empty recycle bin Edited February 12, 2025 by Fademidun
Luke 42077 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 OK so is this more of a Synology disk question? @FrostBytemay have some tips.
Fademidun 3 Posted February 14, 2025 Author Posted February 14, 2025 The situation seems to have resolved itself, I made so many changes from deleting files directly from Emby (metadata manager), directly from my synology, change the Record File Access Time to never on all volumes, reboot the NAS, just noticed volume is now showing 1.7TB free??? Thanks to all... though the only thing I did differently is "Record File Access Time" maybe that fix the issue??, remain the question but it's fixed
Luke 42077 Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 I’m not sure, but thanks for following up.
