theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 Is there a reason, why the Android App supports "Chromecast Video" and "Chromecast Audio" but not the Wiim players?
ebr 16169 Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 Hi. The Android system decides what apps are available based on the content that is trying to be played.

But why do then Android apps like DS-Audio or HiFi-Cast offer the Wiim player beside the 2 Chromecasts as an external player and why exactly does the Android app Emby app only offer the 2 Chromecasts but not the Wiim?
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 10, 2025 Author Posted February 10, 2025 If i was not clear, see the 2 screenshots, one from HiFi-Player the other from Emby
ebr 16169 Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 Hi. Okay, that looks like you are trying to "Play to" or cast to another device which is different from using an external player in the app.
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 10, 2025 Author Posted February 10, 2025 Ah, tanks you are right! But then, my question would be, why is HiFi Cast showing the Wiim and Emby is not showing the Wiim? All this came up, because the Emby DNLA Server and the Wiim DLNA client are not working in my hands, issues with the "ARTISTS". Artists is not browsable for me in this constellation. But I have a solution now :-): - Emby as media DLNA server - BubbleUPnP Android App for accessing Emby - Wiim Pro playing the stuff Works all great!

No, that was too early, same issue as DLNA directly from the Wiim. If I choose an Artist, it says "no playable items found", so the problem seems to be the Emby dlna server. I thought it was maybe the dlna implemetation on the Wiim. If I click on "Albums", everything comes up. I saw that others have this problem, too..... So, I have to stick to DS-Audio...., no problem here (but without Emby)
Luke 42077 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 Is the Wiim on the same local network as the server?
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 12, 2025 Author Posted February 12, 2025 (edited) Of course (192.168.178.0/24), thats the reason why "Hi-Fi-Player for Android" can see all of them (see the pic further up) To be clear: the upper pic from avoe is from Hi-Fi Player, the pic beneath is from Emby for Android and I m just wondering why Emby do not offer to cast to the others. It does not see them.... Edited February 12, 2025 by theonewithaclue
vdatanet 1617 Posted February 12, 2025 Posted February 12, 2025 (edited) I have a Wiim Pro Plus player and it works great with Emby, I even get gapless playback of audio. It's using DLNA. You need to install DLNA plugin and enable Play to feature. Even Wiim's software detects Emby's DLNA server and creates an enhanced library in the app. I can cast from Emby or play content directly from the Wiim app. Edited February 12, 2025 by vdatanet 1
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 14, 2025 Author Posted February 14, 2025 (edited) So, I figured it all out now, its a little bit more compliated than I thought: 1. Casting fom the Emby app to the Wiim via the Chromecast protocol is working now. I had to import the Wiim Chomecast in my Gioogle Home app, then the Wiim Chromecast sghows up in my Eby app. 2. This is working very well now for stereo music, unfortunately not for the dts-wav 3 Casting to the Wiim over its Chromecast protocol is not theonly way to cast to that device. There is another casting protocol but the Emby app is not showing it. It seems to have some advantages over the Wiim's Chromecast protocol. Other apps like HiFi-Cast or DS-Audio this 2nd casting protocol, bur Emby dies not. Have a look to the pics further down. In the Emby app, ther is only ONE Wiim casting protocol, in the other 2 apps you have 2 ways to cast to the Wiim. Why is this important for me: Only the 2nd casting prptocol is working with my dts-wavs without any problems, via the Wiims Chromecast protocol music is sppping etc...... First one is Emby, second DS-Audio, 3rd HiFi-Cast Edited February 14, 2025 by theonewithaclue
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 14, 2025 Author Posted February 14, 2025 ... And the remaining question: Why is Emby not showing the second casting profile of the Wiim ? If it would I would buy the perpetual version of Emby. I think Emby is a great server....
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 14, 2025 Author Posted February 14, 2025 I do not like DS-Audio so much, I cannot use Emby for the dts-wav because of the problem described above and I cannot use Hi-Fi-Cast because of that known DLNA problem with the "Artist" (no browsable media), which is described very well in an other post here in this forum
Luke 42077 Posted February 15, 2025 Posted February 15, 2025 Hi, the two protocols you can use with Emby and Wiim are Chromecast and Dlna. I've tested both personally on a Wiim and they worked just fine.
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 15, 2025 Author Posted February 15, 2025 How shall I use the other profile in the Emby app, when the Emby apponly shows the Wiim 1 X in the casting settings? What I mean exactly is: In DS-Audio AND Hi-Fi Cast I see the Wiim 2 times in the "casting section", please have a look at the pics above! In the Android Emby app, you can see the Wiim only once and I think what we see is the Chromecast profile, right? Would you agree so far? If not I will try to explain it again, bevause I think this is an important point. If you agree, then my problem again: I can cast with the Emby to the Wiim unsing that ONE option, which is absolutely fine for stereo music and using the analog output on the Wiim, but I have problems if I try to cast dts-wavs the same way (Wiim uses then the spdif output) it works somewhat, but not stable. If I use the DS-Audio app and I use that OTHER Wiim casting device (remember, HiFi Cast and DS Audio show 2 times the Wiim, where the Emby App only shows 1 Wiim in the casting settings), playing of dts-wavs works 100% Kind regards, Rainer
Luke 42077 Posted February 23, 2025 Posted February 23, 2025 Are you sure the Wiim is on the same local network as the server? Do you use multiple subnets? Do you have any other dlna devices that are able to be detected?
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 24, 2025 Author Posted February 24, 2025 Yes Luke, they are all in 192.168.178.0/24. I explain it again: "DS Audiostation" AND "HiFi-Cast" (both Android applications) "see" the Wiim twice and both application can play to both protocols but the one that is NOT Chromecast seems to be much more stable The android app "Emby" sees the Wiim only once, most likely its the Chromecast protocol of the Wiim) And this rise the quenstion why the other 2 apps see a Wiim protocol that Emby does not see?
Neminem 1518 Posted February 24, 2025 Posted February 24, 2025 Ok how did you install Emby ? Docker or Native ? If docker set it to host network.
theonewithaclue 2 Posted February 25, 2025 Author Posted February 25, 2025 I installed it natively on my Synology. I downloaded the spk file from the Emby server
Luke 42077 Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 Do you have any other DLNA devices? Is Emby Server able to detect those?
