deepac7 9 Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 I have manually added posters, backdrops and description and whole bunch of other things to around 50 files. I have selected nfo under "Metadata Savers" I then realized enabling "Save artwork into media folders" would be a better option for me. Now, if I enable this under library settings and rescan and refresh meta data, will I lose all the backdrops and posters I have manually added? If it doesn't, should I select "Replace existing images" when refreshing? Use case: I tend to rename the media files sometimes, when I do this, I rename the respective nfo file accordingly so that all the info is retained. But the ark work is going to be a challenge.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 Yes the Replace existing image option will delete all your images even if there is no online replacement. So if you have custom images you can never use that option. Or you better have them set to readonly. So all you need is Refresh metadata without replace images and Emby will search for metadata and any missing images. 19 minutes ago, deepac7 said: Use case: I tend to rename the media files sometimes, when I do this, I rename the respective nfo file accordingly so that all the info is retained. As images could careless about folder/filename, but of course there are variable of do you put media into their own folder if not the all images will be prefixed with movie name.

So if I uncheck replace existing image, the images which injave manually added will be copied to the media folder, right? About the use case, this is not for my actual movies or tv folder content. I tend to use my own structure for file name and all these files are in one single folder rather than individual folders for each file. I rename file names because I put the video resolution in file name. When ever I replace them with higher resolution, I rename the file to reflect the same. Since all the media files are in same folder if I choose the artwork to save in same folder as media, will there be clash due to naming? ( I dont know if the images are saved next to video with unique names as per the title/file name of the video or simply just "backdrop1"/fanart1)

Sorry I had missed the attachment in this. So it just names it as fanart 1/2//3. Seems like the way I structure my folder and files won't allow me to save images then.

Sure you can enable caching also per library but really depends on your setup as most of the time is not needed. 5 minutes ago, deepac7 said: Since all the media files are in same folder if I choose the artwork to save in same folder as media, will there be clash due to naming? Okay. My file structure is like this: MainFolder>Folder 1> File1.mp4 (+File1.nfo), File2.mp4 (+File2.nfo)....FileN.mp4 (+FileN.nfo) Library settings: (Please scroll to the bottom for my question) Right now, with these settings and folder and file structure, I have manually added backdrops and primary images to video files. I have uploaded images and also used URLs for creating these backdrops and primary images. I am assuming these would have saved to my custom metadata folder path (last screenshot above) Now, what do I change to get all these backdrops placed next to my video files while I do not erase these images for all of these videos by mistake AND avoid any filename clashes. (So sorry if this is irritating)

Per the setting there is no way for the metadata images to be pushed/moved to media folders that I know of. Quote Save artwork into media folders Saving artwork into media folders will put images next to media files where they can be easily accessed from outside of Emby. If disabled, images will be saved into the server's metadata folder.
