podonnell 47 Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Bear with me on this one as it seems like it may be tricky to find the culprit... When I watch Emby on my Shield and pause a title and leave for a minute or two, my screensaver comes on. I think this is my LG TV screensaver. As soon as that happens, the Emby title unpauses itself and I can hear audio behind the screensaver. Pressing the play/pause button then does nothing, and I can only press back or something to dismiss the screensaver. After that, Emby appears to entirely re-launch itself, and the audio stops. Now I have been watching Emby on my Shield for many months now, and I have not experienced this before. Not sure what would have changed. This thread sounds similar regarding the exiting part:

Apologies, it looks like my app updated itself. So that in fact might be the issue -- I was on 3.4.20 as of about a week or so ago, must have updated to 3.4.36 around that time. Is there a way I can get off of 3.4.36 to confirm this just started on that version?
FrostByte 5392 Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 Using the Emby screensaver, no. Photos screensaver started up, clicked the left arrow and movie was still paused. I turned off the Emby one and will test with the Samsung TV screensaver. However, that one takes 2 hours to display something when there is a static picture. Will be awhile before I can report back. My TV has no setting to adjust the start time either.

podonnell 47 Posted February 6, 2025 Author Posted February 6, 2025 (edited) Yeah for me I couldn't tell if it was the Shield screensaver or my LG one, but the Emby slideshow never came up for sure. The real tell would be that as soon as the screensaver starts, you'll hear the audio kick back in from the should-be paused video. FrostByte 5392 Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 Not sure why my TV settings won't let me adjust that start time. Two hours seems like a long time for a screensaver. It's a 2018 and not an OLED, so maybe Samsung didn't think anyone would need that feature back then. Anyhow, will report after 2 hours. If I still can't duplicate, then I'll try with the Shield screensaver. I'm pretty sure I can adjust the time on that one.
FrostByte 5392 Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 Okay, well for me at least my TV didn't seem to cause the problem. However, the Shield screensaver does this for me. Don't even have to wait, just click start now on the Shield's screensaver setting and you can hear the sound of the movie start playing and it looks like the app restarts and reopens at the home screen. Probably why I've got mine set to the max time and set the option to not start when playing music. 1 1
podonnell 47 Posted February 7, 2025 Author Posted February 7, 2025 Excellent, glad you found the issue. I much prefer the Emby screensaver anyway. I'll have to go tinker with the Shield settings to push the screensaver way back. I might have the defaults set.

My device seems to be fully up to date and its on 3.4.36 Would I need to manually load this? If so is the process downloading the .apk file I think and then updating via USB or such? Or should I be seeing 3.4.37 on Shield directly?

Use the arm64 for the Shield pro. https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html You can copy to usb and install the apk from there. I prefer to have "Transfer files over local network" set on my Shield and then drag the apk from my PC to the download folder on the Shield. Obvious1 4 Posted August 2, 2025 Posted August 2, 2025 Still happening on Shield 2019 pro using non Android TV Emby app 3.4.75 (because it’s better than the Android TV version in other ways) Steps to replicate 1. Pause playback (screensaver set to none in Emby) 2. System screensaver starts after normal delay period and Emby playback resumes in background.
