evlas74 0 Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Hi, I think it could be useful a Plugin to connect to one or more remote Embys and import the media. Not necessarily download the files but allow users to view and play the remote media. Only the media that are physically available on the remote Emby should be exported, so as to allow the reciprocity of the plugins on both servers, i.e. both Emby instances can have the plugin installed and each can be the remote of the other. 1 1

evlas74 0 Posted February 5, 2025 Author Posted February 5, 2025 (edited) Spoiler It's different for at least 2 reasons: - all media are virtually available on the same instance and you don't need to switch between Emby servers to search for media (movies, TV series, music) - you don't need to expose all Emby servers to the internet, they can be connected to each other in VPN and you can access yours with the policies you want Edited February 5, 2025 by evlas74
Neminem 1518 Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 You can do that with vpn to vpn tunneling and a vlan setup. And then mount the vpn share as a library in Emby.
evlas74 0 Posted February 5, 2025 Author Posted February 5, 2025 yes, I know this, but samba over vpn is not the best and doing it via API could allow transcoding via source Emby server.
evlas74 0 Posted February 5, 2025 Author Posted February 5, 2025 No, I'm asking for something similar but not the same thing. When the servers are not owned by the same person, I would like it to be possible to federate them. Everyone will then be able to access their own server, seeing what others are sharing. My request is more versatile because it works regardless of whether the servers are owned by the same person or not. Furthermore, it is possible to extend my request by adding traffic balancing algorithms to choose the server that will perform the transcoding and the one that will route the stream. 1
Neminem 1518 Posted February 5, 2025 Posted February 5, 2025 And you seriously think that Emby will ever do this Emby would be taken down by law enforcement. Just so you can easier do copy right infringement. 1
evlas74 0 Posted February 5, 2025 Author Posted February 5, 2025 I'm not sure, but in theory it doesn't break the law. I can lend my copies to a friend, even digital ones. I'm not personally interested in the load balancing part, I just want to be able to lend my movies to a friend and a relative, I don't expect a lot of traffic. 1

If not, then it is the exact same thing as the other request - the ability to access the content of multiple servers in a single interface.
evlas74 0 Posted February 6, 2025 Author Posted February 6, 2025 ok, if no one else is interested I'll find an alternative solution while waiting for the "Feature: Merge libraries from multiple servers"
