Frustrating issue with Emby server in docker

Hi,

This issue happened about a month ago and I though I had it resolved but today it came back!

I am running Emby in docker on UnRAID 7.

My version is 4.8.10.0.

OK, the issue:

Media goes missing from the server. It's not actually missing but seems to not be indexed anymore. It seems to affect items in the next up list more than other items but that might just be coincidence.

When this happens you cannot find the tv show or movie except for an empty entry (screenshot attached), which will indicate that the series has been watched even if it has not.

I am storing the show details in .nfo files along side the media.

The first time it happened I noticed I could use the identify option to properly identify the movie/series and then that would fix the issue but I am not going to do that for 4,000+ movies and around 1800 series.

My old folder structure was /Media/movies/Movie Name (Year)/Movie Name.mp4 for movies and /Media/tv/Series Name/Season */Episode.mp4 for tv series and I thought maybe the server was getting confused so I changed it to /Media/movies/Movie Name (Year) [imdbid=123456]/Movie Name.mp4 for movies and /Media/tv/Series Name [imdbid=123456]/Season */Episode.mp4 for tv series.

After the first time it happened and I changed the folders to include the imdbid, I rescanned everything and it all worked again! Unfortunately, today the issue is back. I'm at a loss.

Nothing has changed with my workflow or apps etc.

Please let me know if you need more info and thank you!

It looks like you're running into a permission denied error and then it deletes all the entries related to it. There's a bunch of errors for some library items not being found, then it mentions refreshing all the folders, then there's permission denied errors, then it mentions removing things from the library.

HI, yes it looks like the server is being denied access to read the contents of your folders. I would start by resolving that and then everything should fall into place.

OK, you guys are correct about there being some permission issues. That is a newer issue that I can easily resolve and it looks like it was affecting movies.

It still does not explain why some of the tv shows have "disappeared". Right now one show that is missing (The Americans) is all 777 permissions and it still got de-indexed.

It looks like that one also had a permission denied error. Only looked at one log.

The fact that it's even trying to refresh all the folders at the same time, do you have some other software that is crawling the FS?

I do use unmanic/sonarr/radarr. Do you think something that they are doing is causing Emby to want to refresh everything? It's been going this way for a long time. I wonder why I'm just now starting to have issues?

If you have them writing nfo files they yes it will drive RTM insane.  So you really need to disable nfo writting in the *arrs or disable RTM per library and Emby only sees updates during scheduled/manual scans.

But would have nothing to do with permissions issue and probably need to see another server log from after correcting previous issue.

OK, sonarr was writing .nfo files. I turned that off. Also the *arr's are not set to change permissions of the files.

I will try and hunt down the cause of the file permission changes as it is quite annoying.

I made a quick bash script to watch these folders/files and make sure they stay at the right permissions. It's not ideal but until I figure out the cause I will try it this way.

Thank you guys for getting back to me so quickly and helping me know the direction to go!

Please let us know how things go. Thanks.

Everything is back to normal! I do have a bash script running on my server that will keep track of file permissions for me until I can figure out the cause of the changes.

Thanks again for everyone's help and insight!
