External Network Access Suddenly Doesn't Work

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Several days ago, evidently, my family lost access to my server using the external access.  I have checked absolute everything I know to check and it all seems (still) setup correction.

Allow remote access is still checked on the server and for the users
My router still has pass-through enabled for the IP address & port shown in the server settings.
What else is there to check?  I've tested it myself from my phone and Emby Connect and neither will work.  I can only get to the server on my internal network.

I am clueless where to go from here --- if it doesn't work according to the standard instructions -- or just all of a sudden quits --- I have no idea what to do.  My family will be devastated if I can't get this resolved :(

Attached are print screens of the server setup and the router settings.

Thank you for any help.

Hi there, what exactly happens when you try to connect?

From you router screenshots it looks like port are set to UDP.

I think is must be TCP.

It times out and states that "we're unable to connect to the selected server right now"...   It was originally TCP.  I was trying everything to get it to work.  It won't connect whether it's TCP, UDP, or TCP & UDP.

I guess the question becomes did you ISP (C Spire Fiber) change something?

Can you do the tracert test.

Verify Public IP and Port

So the IP at canyousee me is different than what is shown in Emby as the external IP address.   I thought Emby kept that up to date automatically.  I will try to reset it.

Normally it does, are you using a VPN?

No VPN.  The IP address does actually match Emby -- it didn't match what I had saved in my reference file which I evidently didn't update.   The port is not accessible however.

And have you done the tracetr?  As your ISP may have changed something.

yes -- and, at first, I didn't see any CGNAT ranges but now that I look at it again  (I got interrupted by work...at work...go figure! ) The second one on the list is a 100.71 number.  Which, if I am reading correctly, means I have to contact them for a static address now?

Yes it sounds like your ISP may now be CGNAT.

Well, that's just RUDE! LOL  They just want more money from me.  Fingers crossed that is all it will take.  Thanks for all of the quick responses/assistance.  My brother appreciates it most of all!! 🤣

Tailscale or a vpn can help you get around that.
