jahagafut 5 Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 I'm running the linuxserver's docker container of Emby inside unRAID have an i5-14500 with UHD 770, 128gb ddr4 ram, a 4tb nvme cache drive and 2 x 22TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro. I have a realtek 2.5Gbe chip going into a tplink be9600 wifi 7 router. The Apple TV has the issues and it is also wired into the router. My Bravia a95k over WiFi also has the issues.I have installed Intel-gpu-top in unRAID and have mapped /dev/dri. 1) When direct playing nearly anything, even 1080p h264, there's constant micro stuttering 2) No devices specify that they're using HDR or DV when Emby says they are receiving it 3) sometimes the file will be transcoding and sometimes not, same device, same file 4) if putting quality to 100mbps there's huge stuttering 5) audio out of sync on android TV often and I need to restart the tv to fix It seems intermittent but more often than not and files can vary from a 5gb h264 to a 89gb h265 Any advice? About to try a different media server but I prefer Emby's apps
Neminem 1518 Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 Devs would need logs to troubleshoot Server logs, transcoding logs + HW detection logs.
jahagafut 5 Posted February 2, 2025 Author Posted February 2, 2025 Hopefully these are adequate? embyserver-63874051236.txt ffmpeg-transcode-5d6ff548-2f65-4fa0-9da9-5049003e983d_1.txt hardware_detection-63874051295.txt
Neminem 1518 Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 Try using vaapi for everything regarding transcoding, that's how I tamed that beast. By the way, have you upgraded to unRaid 7 ?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 One guess maybe subtitle related, so I would ask do files without any subtitles do the samething? Don't know if the devs has a coded limit or on Auto as it appears to be limited to 40Mbps can you change the client playback quality value to max value to direct play?

It might also be a bad / faulty cable, seen that before. My old dog loved messing with my cabling. Edited February 2, 2025 by Neminem
jahagafut 5 Posted February 2, 2025 Author Posted February 2, 2025 I have tried all of these except using vaapi. My friend was saying yesterday even he used vaapi due to issues. I'm almost thinking it's this tplink be9300 router and my go grab an Eero 7 because they're on sale and better upgrade path and use for me. Then If not, try vaapi . Even jellyfin is having the issue. I turned off multi core enhancement in bios but even with it on I was having issues

My old dog loved messing with my cabling. My torrents are like maxing out my connection though so I think the cable is good. When transcoding some CPU cores spike to 100% but there is a lot of cores still available below 100%. At first I chalked it up to the wifi chip on my Bravia, until I had issues with the wired Apple 4K that is wired to the same router as the server, and then even the laptop albeit likely not the best Wi-Fi chip had the same issues. I suspect there could be some issues with this cheap 300 Canadian dollar entry level TP link Wi-Fi 7 router as I've had random drops in service and everyone's always bitching that they're going between full bars and two bars without even moving. I mean my speed test over Wi-Fi 7 on my phone his 2.8Gb, but that doesn't tell me much about LAN performance. I picked up an Eero Max 7 because I eventually want to mesh the house anyway, would have loved to use the 6E but it only has one 2.5 port and I need 2.5 for WAN and the server. I'll see how this works and if there's still issues I'm going to look at my transcoding settings because my server should be able to handle this hell I upgraded for this purpose. Fingers crossed it's a router issue, the stutters are very short hardly noticeable and the audio doesn't stutter. Also it was not doing this when transcoding yesterday but started today when transcoding, but it's always happening when direct play and you would think direct play having issues would point towards a lan issue. Tplink was 2x2, Eero is 4x4, and at any given time there is so many devices hooked up to the Wi-Fi a lot of it is on 2.4g for smart home things but damn
jahagafut 5 Posted February 2, 2025 Author Posted February 2, 2025 The issue with transcoding in Emby or Jellyfin or direct play stuttering over LAN through my unRAID server seems to have been the TP-Link Tri-Band BE9300 WiFi 7 Router (Archer BE550) Hopefully that sentence helps search indexers point people with the same issue here I grabbed an Eero Max 7 and instantly flawless, although hopefully it stays that way 2 1
