Need help to connect to Synology server outside of home (out of home LAN)

Hello,

I installed Emby Server few weeks ago due to Synology firmware to 7.2+ version, due to "DS Video" solution erased in 7.2.

My access works well when I'm at home, through wifi, on my Samsung TV or on my tablet or phone with Emby Android apps (phone / tablet)

But when I'm travelling I can't connect to my Synology server database with Emby Android apps.

I didn't reach to find the good parameters to create the connection using 4G connection or "external guest wifi". I don't understand which access I need to setup.

I would like to use my Synology "QuickConnect" access but I don't find where on Emby Server I could save my connection login / pwd.

Could you please help me to setup it that "outside home" connection ?

Thanks for your support.

Best regards,

Matthieu B

Thanks @Luke

I verified the parameters of the Emby server and all the "tics" box linked to Network access (allowed from outside and IP auto mapping) are in green.

I also check connection using https://www.canyouseeme.org/ and the "WAN IP address" of my home access are the good one. But when I tested the 8096 port access, Iit doesn't work, when I tested the 8920 port I had the following message : I could not see your service on XX.XX.XXX.XX on port (8920Reason: Connection refused

I don't know how to manage the access authorization. As explained, previsouly I used "Synology QuickConnect" solution.

Do you have an "easy" way to finalize the external access parameters to open Emby Server access outside home ?

Thanks for your support.

@LukeYes I setted up port forwarding on my "SFR Box" router configuration on my DHCP parameters, to be honest "i hope so" because I'm not a techno guy at all.

I identified "internal IP" with the 8096 / 8290 port. I also checked that "my user" is allowed to connect from outside home...

I'm blocked on my "techno skills" and I fear to scratch something on my router configuration that will "break" my network access...

Any easy idea to try in order to finalize the outside Emby access?

Other element on my configuration

- Server : Synology: DS220+

- Firmware version : DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3

Thanks for your support...

Are you sure you're not being blocked by your ISP?
If you look at the external IP address your router shows, does it match the IP shown on the Emby Dashboard?
Does that IP address match what the IP address it shows when using https://www.canyouseeme.org/ ?

How many hops does it take to resolve to that IP address if you trace route to it?
On windows:
tracert x.x.x.x

where the x.x.x.x is replaced by the IP address.

Does OP have 2 routers, 1 from ISP (basically both a modem and router) and then 1 that sits behind the ISP Modem/Router?  If so, you have to configure your ISP modem/router to forward the specific ports to your personal router.

@MatthieuBUARDcan you show screenshots of your port forwarding setup? And can you answer the questions from Carlo and Jator? Thanks !

Hello all,

1st thanks for your investment in the resolution of my Emby access issue.

To answer to @Carlo

- yes canyouseeme.org portal shows me the external IP that I can find on my Emby dashboard parameter on External access "WAN" IP but when I test 8096 port indicated on the Emby dashboard, canyouseeme.org reverse me that message  : "ERROR i could not see the 37.65.XXX.90 on 8096 port"

- But I don't find the External IP in my router parameter portal / the only external IP I find is completely different from the one I find on Emby Dashboard parameter and on the one automaticaly found by "canyouseeme.org". My router portal gives me the external IP address : 10.XXX.XX.90

Adding on that, the router portal precises that the IPv4 config could not work due to actual IPv6 WAN config... to be honest I don't understand anything

Ending, I don't know how to tracert the IP address and to identified if it take a long time. I really not on developer guy... :(  If you have a step by step process that I could follow easily It would help me.

To answer to @Jator : i have a very simple installation. The DS220+ is directly connected to SFR Fiber modem. And I don't think that into the box/modem there is the a secondary router behind the main internet access.

Don't know if it could help.

Assuming you have a windows machine on the same network as your NAS, click on start and type CMD and then hit enter.  You can also do WIN-R then type cmd and hit enter.
This will open a box and you'll have a command prompt. type:

tracert 8.8.8.8

then do the same thing after it finishes changing the 8.8.8.8 to the IP external IP shown on the Emby Dashboard.

Open a browser to https://www.checkmynat.com/.  Click the Check NAT button and a couple seconds later you'll see a couple lines above the button get updated.
Copy these two line as well as the results from the two trace routes commands you ran and post then in a reply here.

Or PM me the results of these tests if you don't want to post this info in the public forum.

I'm not liking the "10.XXX.XX.90" address you see as it's not a publicly routable IP address, but a reserved private IP.
The information from these tests will help determine if you are behind a CG-NAT.

Hi,

could he also have a problem with double nat? If so he can have isp put their modem/router in bridge mode. Then his router would handle the port forwarding.

Yes he could. The trace routes should shed light on this.
