Not sure if it is helpful or not - but I had not been having this problem until this past week or so.  The ONLY thing I have done differntly as compared to the last several years is that I added a new server (still testing - I have both server addresses available)
But all of sudden I started getting this black screen upon reopening the Emby app on Nvidia Shiled - regardless of which server I was currently connected to.

My wife has been watching considerably more Netflix lately - so that is what is often going on when the Emby app has been left open.  It is going to be a bit hard to "teach" wife and children to "properly" close the Emby app when switching to another app (ie Netflix). TBH, that just isn't a good answer since nobody EVER does that with iOS or Android devices on a day to day basis!

I am assuming that the app hasn't been updated in the last couple weeks or so has it??  I don't see that in the version log.  I do keep my servers updated to the latest beta servers - one on a Synology NAS and the other is on a Ubuntu server - in a docker container.  is it possible that server updates could be helping to cause this issue?  esp since I had NOT been having until just recently ??

I have the Android (not android TV) version installed -- should I be using it instead??  I have seen that advice in other threads.

PS - also my avatar says "Rookie" but I am a LONG term Emby user

@Ahole Hi, yes you are using the correct version.

Hi, you don't need to because this isn't necessary.

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Sorry - I have done that LONG ago and it does work 
Using now for sure after you advised previously.

Not completely sure why but I have always preferered the look and feel of the ATV app -- but will use the regualr Android app going forward
