Ahole 17 Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 I posted here (an old thread): Black screen thread My problems started 2 or 3 weeks ago -- of not I had NOT had issues previously with long term use of the Android TV version of Emby on an Nvidia Shield Pro. The black screen issue when trying to restart was the issuse that I first noticed. Subsequent to the initial occurences of the black screen when restarting I setup a new server on Linux (but the best I can tell the new server is not the issue). But I am open to that be a possibility. I have the older server still running on my NAS In addition or concomitant to the balck screen issue the Android TV app has also been locking up and unresponsive to button pushes, Live TV freezing to the point that it really is not watchable for more than 10 minutes or so. The plain Android app seems to work better as far as reliability. I run the latest beta version on the server side and I am part of the beta program on Google for the client side. Is it possible that some server upgrade recently could in some bad combination be responsible for my realtively recnt deterioration in function of Android TV app? Is it recommended for now to just quit using the Android TV version ( and use the regular Android version) until the new iteration comes out?
Lincoln34 0 Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 It sounds like you’re experiencing performance issues with the Android TV version of Emby on your Nvidia Shield Pro. A possible solution is to try freecine TV app for Android TV as an alternative. It’s known for offering reliable streaming without the black screen or freezing issues you’re facing with Live TV, providing a smoother experience for your entertainment needs. You could also consider using it temporarily while waiting for updates to fix the Emby app's issues.

Yes -- I mentioned that "the plain Android app seems to work better as far as reliability." Is using that the official suggestion now? Any thoughts on why the ATV app seemingly suddenly deteriorated? Could it be based on updates on the seerver end??
