Samsung TV with Emby App doesn't play most MP4 files

Is there a way (with some kind of a trick) to install the emby app of another Samsung tv so that my Samsung tv plays e.g. "22 Kugeln.mp4" and all other mp4 files?

I'm not quite sure what you mean.  There is only one emby app for all Samsung models.

This isn't an emby app limitation, it's a device limitation.

But doesn't it transcode then play the file successfully?  Isn't that your solution?  Everything doesn't have to DirectPlay - transcoding is OK

I have not looked at or played with the transcoding at all.  It seems that Emby does not see that transcoding is needed in some situations and Samsung TV does not like the 50 fps or some other issue.

Seems like this:

  1. Somehow force transcoding for specific incoming TV shows.  Is that possible?  Can a DLNA custom Samsung profile help?  Just a guess.
  2. Convert all TV media from 50 fps to 25 fps and put it in TV series library collection.  I would guess this stops the convenience of live TV playback, but the newly converted 25 fps media collection of a show would play on the TV.
  3. Get a TV that doesn't have this problem.

OK. Didn't now that.

The "device" (my Samsung TV) plays all media just fine when playing the media via USB stick. Only when using emby some media doesn't play.

I'm having problems to transcode the media files. Probably some software is missing on my Linux Mint pc.

1. I have to find out why transcoding ios not working. Probably some software is missing on my Linux Mint pc.

Regarding DLNA: DLNA would be a solution. I already installed miniDLNA on my Linux Mint pc. And miniDLNA was running on my pc. But my Samsung TV didn't get access to the media files on my pc via DLNA. Don't know why. What do you mean with DLNA custom Samsung profile?

2. Converting is no option.

3. No other TV neccessary! Most media files are playing. Before buying another TV I would by a fire tv stick or something like that😉

This could be an option, but I don't think you'll be able to avoid transcoding in some instances.  you might have to try and resolve your issues.

What makes you think software is missing?  If you post logs after a transcoding attempt, then we might be able to help.

@SamES

You ask me "What makes you think software is missing?". Please see in my first post. There are many log files attached and they are named with "...transcode...". There I have made different transcoding settings in the emby server and then I tried to play a media file and logged. Does this help you?

A couple of questions, apologies if you've already covered them elsewhere:

  • Is this a local or remote connection? Is the TV and server on the same network?
  • Are you trying to connect to the server via http or https?  Which port?
  • Are you using docker or any form of container?
  • Are you using a reverse proxy?

This error concerns me, but not sure if this is the cause or just a symptom of you issue: @softworkz, what would cause this error? Is this a file permission error?

At some questions I am not sure what you mean.

Server and TV are in the same network. How can I find out if it is remote or local?

I think it is http. Port 8096

Emby is in a docker.

Don't what it is "reverse Proxy"

OK, the answers you have given me answer my questions.  I suspect that this might be related to a docker config issue, but I'm not sure.

Can you confirm whether transcoding works when you test from another device and not the Samsung TV.  Either a phone, or even just the web browser.

In the settings on the OSD during playback, you can lower the quality setting until it forces transcoding to test this.

A few minutes ago I made this test: In the settings on the OSD during playback on my Samsung TV, I lowered the quality settings and yes transcoding is working.

Now I can say that this mistake is not only related to my MP4 files. A few minutes ago I tried to play a MKV video file. This mkv file even doesn't play. And this MKV file has 50 frames per second.

It seems that all files that doesn't play have 50 fps. All files that play have 25 fps.

It makes sense that if you force transcoding then it should play as it will convert to 25fps.

What I can't explain is when it fails to DirectPlay, you get this error "There is no stream available at the moment. Please ask your administrator" instead of it transcoding correctly.

@Lukeare there any known issues in 4.8.10.0 that causes the "There is no stream available at the moment. Please ask your administrator" error message when it tries to transcode as a fallback with DirectPlay and DirectStream fails?  Logs are in the first post. Thanks

A few days ago I installed MiniDLNA on my PC. Now  I can play on my Samsung TV any movie via DLNA that doesn't play with emby.

I already testet some movies that doesn't play with emby and I can say that all these movies play well on my Samsung TV via miniDLNA

Ok you can also that with Emby dlna.

I didn't get emby DLNA to work.

What exactly did you try?

I saw that emby also supports DLNA. So I enabled emby DLNA. But my Samsung TV didn't show emby DLNA. That is all I want to say. Regarding DLNA I use MiniDLNA now.

More important for me is: why emby doesn't play all my movies with 50fps?

Let me say that this is much more important / interesting why this doesn't work!

Hi, did you enable the dlna server in emby dlna settings?

Installation instructions says that I have to use USB stick 20 and have to format FAT16. All my USB sticks has minimum 16 GB so I can't format them in FAT16. Only FAT 32 is possible. Any other chance to install Emby for Samsung 2.0.2?

FAT32 should be fine, did you try it?  What country are you in?  Is it in the app store on your TV?

With FAT32 the TV doesn't install the data from the USB stick,

I am from Germany.

And yes the app is in the app store.
