Books and games

Hello again everyone... I've successfully set up Emby on my Synology NAS... I've added all my media including books and games. Now, when I go to the book library it shows all the covers but I can't open a single book to read... media type is correctly set to books but no way... am I missing something?

Coming to games, I followed the guide I found here to set up game browser plugin .. It successfully get the plugin installed, I wanted to add arcade game system, so I did. I created the game directory and pointed the system to the rom folder. Made a scan, nothing happened. Tried to add the external player but could not find a way to add it. Now sitting with homepage showing a games library with nothing in it despite the library scan.

Running the latest emby server on DSM 7.2.2.

I hope that someone can shed some light on these two apparently complicated topics

Neither of these library types are key features of Emby. They are both more of a categorizing feature than anything else.
They both require external programs to use. For books you download the book, then use a local book reader.
For gaming, it's basically limited to Emby Theater for Windows

It's been a while since I've tried Games in Emby but I think this would be the needed steps to get this setup and working.

  • Install the GameBrowser Plugin: Go to the Emby server dashboard, navigate to Plugins > Plugin Catalog > Server > Gamebrowser, and click Install. Restart the server once the installation is complete.

  • Set Up Game Folders: Organize your games into folders by platform. For example:

    Games > ATARI > Asteroids > Asteroids.a26
    Games > SNES > Donkey Kong Country > Donkeykongcountry.smc

For MAME games, you can keep all .zip files in one folder.

  • Configure Game Systems: On the server dashboard, go to Plugins > My Plugins > Gamebrowser and click + Add next to Game Systems. Choose the path to your game folders and select the appropriate platform.

  • Add Games to Your Library: Navigate to Library > + Add Media Library, choose Games from the drop-down box, name your game library, and add the path to your ROOT games folder. The library scan will automatically detect your games.

  • Set Up Emby Theater: Open Emby Theater, click on your profile icon, go to Settings > External Players > Add Player, and set the media type to Game. Enter the path to your emulator and the correct command line argument.

  • Launch Games: Your games should now be available in Emby Theater, and you can launch them directly from there.

Hi Luke, nope… Emby does not fetch any metadata for games. Books covers do show up but as far as I understand I cannot read them from inside emby correct? Is just more like a catalog?

Correct, but hopefully in future updates we will have that.
