Password problems

I've been trying to login via what Emby calls my server: Cliff_Desktop.

There are four choices: deja (my username); Manual Login; Forgot Password?; and Change Server.

I've used both Deja and Manual Login, and get sneered at either way.

Darkassassin07, you did. You're the one who suggested that I was accessing someone else's server. You're the one who said Emby is for streaming media from a server.

And Gilgamesh_48 said I need a server, or the program won't work.

Sounds like hardware to me.

He means the Emby Server software.

OK please attach the emby server log from when the problem occurred:

Thanks !

I said several times that I am not a geek/nerd/egghead or whatever the term du jour is.

I found the Advanced menu, but not Logs. But I did see what looks like a log of login attempts. All instances are from my teevee.

And looking at the Emby website, it touts its simplicity. It has a graphic that says, "Sign Up; Sign In; Enjoy". Please forgive me for thinking that the experience would be painless.

And it refers to Emby Connect, which sounds like the server software to which you folks refer. It overtly says Connect is optional.

So why would I think otherwise?

Dinner time, I guess. Nobody here anymore.

A server can be anything that serves some kind of content to a client, it doesn't have to be dedicated server grade hardware to be considered as such, even your phone could be considered a server if you use the right software. Emby Connect is completely optional and not required whether you're local or remote, I don't use it all in my environment. It sounds like your devices are all in your local network, in that case you can skip emby connect when that screen comes up and just enter the IP of your system, you can find that on your admin dashboard under in-home access. The port should default to 8096 which unless you changed that in your Network settings you can leave as is and then you log in with your username and password that you created when you set up the server - NOT YOUR EMBY CONNECT CREDENTIALS, the local username and password.

I saw no reason to change the port, and I figured it would only lead to more problems anyway.

I'm going to go eat. I'll try your suggestion later. Thank you.

Lessaj, I tried that. No joy. I tried logging in manually. No joy. I found a way to sign in with PIN. It srill wanted my password.

I tried using the IP address. No joy.

This was all on my Samsung teevee. It just refuses to accept my password.

I'll just use my tablet - until I have to reboot or something, and I lose access there, too.

Emby just hates me.

PWhodges; one of the issues I have with Forums in general is what you tout as an advantage: that others, outside of the company, may contribute. If one of them leads me down a bad path, or provides bogus information, there's nothing I can do about it. If I know that actual employees (or a contractor) is handling the questions, I can be reasonably assured that the information is correct. If it's not, then I can take it up with the company. I can also trust that they will not use jargon and obscure terms, be cause they will direct the answers to those without technical knowledge.

It's just basic customer service, which will always be important to the end users, and the companies that care about them.

But I can watch videos on my tablet; that was my primary goal. To watch them on my teevee would have been nice, but it's not a deal-killer.

You don't need to be.

(sorry for delayed reply - I've been away)

First try the action which fails.  Then click the cog at the top right of the home screen:

Then look down the menu on the left until you get to the Logs entry; click it to see the logs; to the right of the top log (embyserver.txt) click the three dots, and select Download:

When the log has downloaded, simply drag it onto you next post in this forum before submitting it, which will cause it to be attached.  Then the devs (or some helpful user who sees it earlier) can check it to see the likely cause of your issue.

(1) You can do something - ask again! - keep asking until you get the solution.  Also, be a bit more trusting.  But (2), it can be naïve to assume that employees give consistently accurate answers...  Here, you either get the developers themselves, or users who are taking the trouble to try to help (and you can, for instance, see in their profile how often their posts are marked as being helpful, or solving a problem).
