Photo COLLECTIONS metadata for grouping VIDEO COLLECTIONS into same ALBUM

Hi. On advice from dev, here’s a new feature request topic concerning photo albums: How many users think a PHOTO-based COLLECTIONS metadata tag should be read by EMBY and combined with the existing VIDEO-based <set> nfo xml tag that Emby already reads/creates/edits so that the PHOTO and VIDEO can be gathered together by the same COLLECTIONS metadata? I have posted this question in multiple general forums and also in several feature requests because all of these threads are on the same subject which is talking about or looking for support or asking for features regarding photo file metadata.

Here is a question about how Emby handles the metadata differences between VIDEOS and PHOTOS: As you already know, users can populate their NFOs with the xml code <set><name>COLLECTION</name></set> to gather together VIDEOS into a COLLECTION; however, the only method to gather PHOTOS into that same COLLECTION is to edit manually the metadata for each PHOTO. At present, the Emby database accepts and records four native IMAGE file metadata tags; specifically, date, title, description (OVERVIEW), and subject (TAG).

Can the Emby library database be updated to accept and record a native XMP metadata tag that the PHOTO enthusiasts community could use for COLLECTIONS; for example, ALBUM, which is already commonly coded into lots of different IMAGE file types?

Where are the HOME VIDEO & PHOTO library type users and do any of you like to group videos and photos together by COLLECTION?

Hi, yes we could certainly do this. What about

dc:embycollections 

And following the same convention as dc:subject, which gets parsed into emby tags.

Thank you for your reply and encouraging recommendation!

Personally, I use either cmd exiftool (or jExifToolGUI) to load my photo media files with the four metadata tags presently used by Emby; namely, date, title, description (parsed as OVERVIEW), and subject (parsed as TAG).

Writing photo metadata with multiple subject tags to be parsed into Emby TAGS is easily accomplished using cmd > exiftool -sep ", " -Subject="tag1, tag2, tag3, etc." filename.ext

With the addition of a fifth metadata tag, such as "XMP-dc:embycollections", that Emby will parse into Emby COLLECTIONS, both VIDEO and PHOTO media types can be coded in bulk to share the same Emby COLLECTIONS group criteria, if desired by the user.

That would be delightfully fun and greatly enhance the UI experience for Emby's HOME VIDEO & PHOTO library users.
