Hi @DickyLtake a look at Configuration Backup for more information:

1. Choose your Backup destination folder
2. (Optional) Choose to include metadata in the backup
3. Choose the number of backups you would like to keep
4. Click 'Save'

Is there something that is not clear on that page?

How to Restore from a Backup

Did you review the link I shared above?

Please note that restoring from backup is an Emby Premiere feature, so you must have an active subscription to make use of this feature.

Can you teach me how to restore it?

I have the same issues.

*Premium account  activated

*Backup Restore app installed

*Version 4.9.0.37 beta

Below the “save” icon, there were two options: “Backup & restore.”

Hi, what exactly is your question?

Nothing will appear below the 'Save' button until you have some backups to restore.

Thanks for your reply 🙂

It was there, then it disappeared. I will wait 12 hours to see if it generates a backup.

Hi, did it create your backup?

I have the same issue as OP. I built a new Emby Server -> added my premier key -> went to back up and restore section -> Restore is missing. Just says save like pictured above...

Based on the feedback, I cannot restore until after it completes one backup. Which I presume is 24 hours since I first configured the new server to backup.

The restore option should be there by default. So I can restore all the settings and get up and running on the new server without having to wait 24 hours or whenever the "restore from backup" button magically appears. Possible for this feature to be implemented in one of the backup and restore options?

You can always run Emby Server Backup scheduled task manually at any time you desire.

If you haven’t created a backup yet then  what would the restore button do?

I have backups from another server. I built a new server and wanted to restore the backup from the old (existing server) onto that new server.

Anyhow I discovered the issue. Emby backup will only show the restore button if you have a full backup in your restore directory (where you pointed it to). I am spelling this out for the next person who is riding the struggle bus in the future.

If you configure Emby backup folder to (for example) "D:\Emby Backup". You must place your old backup (or any backup) into that EXACT directory. I made the mistake of placing my backup on my users desktop "C:\Users\Emby\Desktop". Thinking that I would be able to click the restore button -> navigate to the backup and restore it. Well you can't. As pictured above the restore button doesn't exist (literally hidden) until a backup is placed into that backup directory.

Looking back at this I understand the concept. Backup must be in backup directory, otherwise the option to restore backup is hidden from end user.

My personal expectation was restore backup option is not hidden -> I click "restore from backup" -> windows file explore pops up (or I click the magnifying glass) -> navigate to backup on my desktop -> restore -> success.

So for anyone restoring from backup (fresh server installation) -> place a full backup in the same directory as "backup folder" path -> you should then see the restore button appear in the server settings. And you can restore your backup.

A few suggested enhancement to the dev team to improve user experience\confusion would be:

  1. During the server installation process. The first option should be "Do you want to restore from backup?" (even before creating an account and disabling UPNP etc).
  2. Other option is to add a little text box explaining why restore button is missing when you first build server "restore button will appear once first backup is created in XYZ hours. You can manually trigger your first backup by going to scheduled tasks -> server backup -> play button"
  3. Other option is to make the restore from backup button available at all times, and allow/direct the user to place their old backup in the same location as the new backup directory (or let us choose a backup file from any location with file explorer).

Hi, yes these are great suggestions. We'll take a look at them. Thanks for the feedback.
