newyorker 11 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 Anime typically airs new content during its scheduled calendar season. On most anime-dedicated websites, you can filter anime by calendar season, such as Spring 2024, Summer 2024, Winter 2025, etc. Is it possible to implement this type of filter in Emby? The current filters like "status" and "year" are too broad. Ideally, the filter should be based on the airdate of the first episode of each TV season, but this option is not available in the current filter features. Are there any plugins that offer this functionality? Could the upcoming smart playlist feature achieve this? I’d love to hear some advice from experienced anime fans.
RanmaCanada 495 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 I don't believe it is as the person maintaining the Anime plugin is Luke himself, and we know just how busy he is. If you want this, nothing is stopping you from learning to program and create it. Plenty of people would be happy. Would be great if nyaa or other torrent sites had sorting like this...
pwhodges 2012 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 Most of my server and watching is anime, but I cannot see what the value of this within Emby might be. Just curious... Paul

Just curious... Paul The value would be in regards to keeping up to date with the current airing season. It's hard enough for those of us who aren't in private sites that sort content by season, to grab said files. I only have 1100 or so anime series, but it would be great to have them to be able to be sorted by anime season for when I have a brain fart and can't remember what it is I want to watch but I know when it aired.
pwhodges 2012 Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 I see. The way I handle it is that I have a separate small library for just those anime currently running which I am following (containing only the current season, sorted by last episode release date). That way, I can see instantly which ones are ready with another episode to watch - and at the end of the season I just move it into the anime's folder in the main library. Anything not in the current season, I have no great interest in what season exactly it aired - the release date is good enough. Paul

Paul That's what I currently do as well, but the process of moving files is inconvenient, and sometimes I forget to do it. It would be great if Emby could filter anime from the current season directly within the main library, that's why I ask for this feature. Another issue I have is with ongoing series. For example, an anime's first season is already finished years ago and is in my "main" library. Then the second season starts airing now, I'll have to put the second season to the "current season" library. This creates two separate entries for the same anime, making it harder to distinguish when searching and other inconvenience. Do you have any advice for handling this?
