SShzin 32 Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 I seem to be having an issue with playback getting the error "No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for detail". I can play it if I search for it, select from favorites, or even simply clicking on the next episode and back. If I select it via Continue Watching then it will display this error. I've tried downgrading and the error persists. I don't see this issue if there is not multiple versions. So if there are 2+ versions of the show, then it will throw the playback error after selecting on Continue Watching. Attached logs. In the logs you'll see I attempted to play, switched to a different episode and back, and was able to play. Then I clicked onto the episode in Continue Watching, and was unable to play again. embyserver (4).txt
Luke 42077 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 Hi, that's really odd. @sa2000are you able to reproduce? 1
AndreiP 33 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 If I remember well, I had this kind of problem when I removed an episode from a show and then I added the same but in other path (different folder or other hdd). If I remember well, I just went in the library where was the show and was able to watch. 1

Also the folder structure has not changed. This is on a brand new install. If you right click on web and play (or hold down and play on devices) from the Continue watching screen, Emby will also play the first season and episode. This means if you're on season 7 episode 9, it will still play season 1 episode 1. So even trying to play before you hit the episode screen is broken. Edited January 20, 2025 by SShzin
SShzin 32 Posted January 20, 2025 Author Posted January 20, 2025 (edited) Also, this was on a fresh install on latest stable. I had been seeing it on an existing install and started another server just to make sure it wasn't something wrong with my existing install. (Edited above post to reflect new install). Edited January 20, 2025 by SShzin Both existing and new install affected.
sa2000 674 Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 (edited) @SShzin I am trying to see if I can reproduce the problem. So far creating a library with two folder paths each having separate version of the series episodes has not given me an error on using Continue Watching What I can see from the log is that for Series "Ahsoka" Season 1 you have (just looking at first 2 episodes) /mnt/lm/television/main/ Ahsoka (2023) {tvdb-393187}/ Season 01/ Ahsoka (2023) - S01E01 [DSNP WEBDL-1080p 8-bit h264 EAC3 Atmos 5.1]-NTb.mkv Ahsoka (2023) - S01E02 [DSNP WEBDL-1080p 8-bit h264 EAC3 Atmos 5.1]-NTb.mkv /mnt/lm/television/main-4kdv/ Ahsoka (2023) {tvdb-393187}/ Season 01/ Ahsoka.S01E01.Part.One.Master.and.Apprentice.UHD.BluRay.2160p.TrueHD.Atmos.7.1.DV.HEVC.REMUX-FraMeSToR.mkv Ahsoka.S01E02.Part.Two.Toil.and.Trouble.UHD.BluRay.2160p.TrueHD.Atmos.7.1.DV.HEVC.REMUX-FraMeSToR.mkv Are these in the same TV library and the library having two different base folders /mnt/lm/television/main /mnt/lm/television/main-4kdv Or seprate libraries ? Do they show as different versions to select from when on the episode screen? Picking one of the examples from the log where you had the No Compatible Stream error: I can see playback of this file /mnt/lm/television/main-4kdv/Ahsoka (2023) {tvdb-393187}/Season 01/Ahsoka.S01E01.Part.One.Master.and.Apprentice.UHD.BluRay.2160p.TrueHD.Atmos.7.1.DV.HEVC.REMUX-FraMeSToR.mkv At 2025-01-19 16:20:13. So this the 4k S01E01. Playback was stopped at 16:20:15 after the client app got about 1 minute of the the episode in segments. Then the Continue Watching screen was displayed and attempt was made to start a playback of the S01E01 file stopped earlier but also getting a request to the server for playback for S01E02 - from the other version /mnt/lm/television/main/Ahsoka (2023) {tvdb-393187}/Ahsoka (2023) - S01E02 [DSNP WEBDL-1080p 8-bit h264 EAC3 Atmos 5.1]-NTb.mkv Can you tell me the steps to follow to reproduce this? Initially with respect to the libraries and which version was selected and if there was a drop down of versions and then after the stop after 1 minute of S01E01 - exactly what you selected to get the error Edited January 20, 2025 by sa2000
SShzin 32 Posted January 20, 2025 Author Posted January 20, 2025 (edited) Thank you for your response @sa2000 Quote Are these in the same TV library and the library having two different base folders These are both in the same TV library yes and the library has three different base folders. The 3rd is a DV folder. Quote Do they show as different versions to select from when on the episode screen? Yes, there is a choice to select a version. Quote I can see playback of this file Correct, as mentioned in the original post, in order to move past this error, I simply selected a separate episode, and then back to the original episode and am able to play. I did that in order to show but it looks like it just caused confusion. If a new log file is needed, please let me know. Quote Can you tell me the steps to follow to reproduce this? Absolutely. 1. Obviously first you must have a library scanned in with the option "Automatically merge series that are spread across multiple folders." with 2 or more ( I have 3 folders) folders with the same series, but different versions. 2. Mark an episode as played so that the next episode shows in "Continue Watching". 3. Select the episode from "Continue Watching", enter the episode screen, and then press play. This is where the error occurs. Also, clicking the play button or playing from the Continue Watching screen will cause the first episode of the first season to play. If I didn't answer all of your questions please let me know, and again if needed please let me know if additional logs are required. Edited January 20, 2025 by SShzin edit #3 to provide clarity. 1

So far I have not managed to reproduce the error - Tried with 2 folders with episodes 6 & 7 of a season. After marking epsiode 6 as played. Continue Watching clicking on to play episode 7 worked fine. I will do some more testing and introduce a third base folder as well With regards to this setting to automatically merge, with regards to the first 2 episodes of season 1 - do they exist as Season 1 Episode 1 in all 3 folder paths or are we switching from one base folder to another. Edited January 21, 2025 by sa2000
SShzin 32 Posted January 21, 2025 Author Posted January 21, 2025 (edited) I've included another log file example with different shows each with 3 paths. Quote With regards to this setting to automatically merge, with regards to the first 2 episodes of season 1 - do they exist as Season 1 Episode 1 in all 3 folder paths or are we switching from one base folder to another. Correct so Season 1 Episode 1, Season 1 Episode 2, etc, is the same in each separate folder path just obviously different file names. So as you had above, plus one extra (I mentioned 4KDV I meant 4K above so I have 1080p, 4K and 4KDV): /mnt/lm/television/main /mnt/lm/television/main-4k /mnt/lm/television/main-4kdv The earlier log doesn't show the other folder (4k) as I was testing to see if removing access to the folder would help (it didn't). So when you say you are clicking on to play, are you clicking on the episode, and having it bring you to the show screen where you can see all the other episodes, play, change versions and audio versions correct? embyserver (5).txt Edited January 21, 2025 by SShzin

So we have S7 E7 in Continue Watching now Edited January 21, 2025 by sa2000
SShzin 32 Posted January 21, 2025 Author Posted January 21, 2025 Quote Tell me exactly what to click and from where when at this home screen Continue Watching View I'm guessing that there are multiple versions for each of those shows correct? If so, click on either episode so it will bring you to the show. Once on the show's page and it has the option available to play, change versions, audio, and subtitles, click play. That should give you that error. I'd be willing to send over my database if that will help via DM.

This is the screen I have when clicking on Young Sheldon from the earlier Continue Watching screen. It shows E6 played and display at the top E7 with versions to select from in a drop-down You mentioned change audio and subtitles - tell me exactly what to select from this screen to bring the error
SShzin 32 Posted January 21, 2025 Author Posted January 21, 2025 (edited) Quote You mentioned change audio and subtitles - tell me exactly what to select from this screen to bring the error I don't usually choose anything but no matter what I choose, the error occurs. I've tried all variations and the error will pop up. As I said if I switch out of the screen (separate episode and back) I'm able to play fine. I noticed your episode is 480p. Do you have any 1080p, 4k and 4kdv? Edited January 21, 2025 by SShzin

I do have some 1080's but not 4k or 4kdv As all your files for this Ahsoka series are mkv's - could you use mkvtoolnix to create 3 minutes clips from each of S01E01 and S01E02 for the 3 different versions and let me have them. I will send you a link to upload the 6 files (and if there are any related nfo files) 15 hours ago, SShzin said: I don't usually choose anything but no matter what I choose, the error occurs. sa2000 674 Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 Thanks for sending me the 30 second clips from the 3 versions of Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2 With default settings - setting up a library with the 3 folder paths and the option "Automatically merge series that are spread across multiple folders" which is selected by default, I have not been able able to get the error. So it could be specific to subtitle selection/audio selection This shows the series in the library with episode 1 I marked as played (I did not select a version - i just clicked on the episode and ticked the played icon) and there are 3 versions This shows how it appears on the Continue Watching screen which shows episode 2 as the next episode to play. Clicking on the playback button in middle of the poster, played the episode without error After marking Episode 2 as unplayed and going back to the Continue Watching section as before, opening up the item shows this screen Clicking on Play button started playback without error I see there are loads of subtitle streams. Also a couple of the versions have more than one audio stream. So may be stream selection is a factor and I will need to know what streams you select
sa2000 674 Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 I will look further into the logs you provided
tanStaafl 14 Posted January 26, 2025 Posted January 26, 2025 (edited) For the last week or so I have been having the same intermittent problems with the "No compatible streams" issue. It appears to be some problem with the playback and codecs. It appears my NEW .mkv's x264 and x265 are the problem, but not all of them. Since there are several 'methods' for creating these files it makes sense. To test, I downloaded ALL the problem files in .mp4 format, and VIOLA!!! They all work. I'm a rookie at this video/codec stuff, so I could be barking up the wrong tree and am completely wrong, but this seems to be the issue on my system. OH! and All versions (MP4, MKV & AVI) play on VLC and MediaPlayer.. Apologies, one last edit.. This doesn't appear to affect my Movie files, only my TV Series. Ok, I'm done..
