gestep48 1 Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 I have used Emby for several years and am happy with it. When I was with Frontier, I was able to use my HDHOMERUN with my TV service and it worked well. Now I am using YouTube TV. Is there any way that I can use YouTube TV with Emby? Thanks for your help!

Spin up channels dvr on docker. Link your youtube tv to TVE then copy the m3u url and then the Epg url into emby live tv 1
Luke 42078 Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 Hi, as far as I know, Youtube TV does not make their streams available for other apps to utilize.
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 The only way i have been able to make YouTube TV work with Emby is to use CHDVR and link that with YouTube using their TV Anywhere interface and then use the resulting M3U file to make the YouTube feed work with Emby. It works well but there are some drawbacks: 1. It requires an outlay of about $80.00 to get a year of CHDVR. 2. Not all YouTube channels work that way. In particular, ABC, CBS and NBC are not available to stream but can be watched just fine in YouTube itself. 3. Unless you have a pretty powerful server CHDVR needs a separate computer. 4. There is an extra delay, of a few seconds, as CHDVR processes the stream and prepares it for output and then Emby processes it. The M3U does not directly link to YouTube but rather back to CHDVR. I used that method for a year or so but i found it too cumbersome for regular use. I also used CHDVR separate for recording into Emby but that proved to be less than ideal for several reasons. I now have set up an OTA antenna and a VERY basic cable package from Spectrum and I get most of what I want and have no recurring monthly payments except for the minimal extra for the basic TV package and the other things like Paramount+ that i would pay for anyway. I also have Peacock TV for Premier league matches. Those last two i would have anyway as no service provides them at no extra cost. Note: If you have a Roku Peacock TV is available at a discount. At least i got it for about $5.00 a month. I have only been using my new setup for about a month and I can report that it does work, usually. The good thing is that I no longer have to pay YouTube's excessive fees. I am missing a few sports channels and i will have to decide if paying extra is really worth it for what I miss, but that will take some time. Note 2: I cannot assure anyone that their experience will be as good as mine but it took a couple of weeks of experimentation for me to approach what i m beginning to think is my solution. Good Luck. BTW: If YouTube had a halfway decent interface I would use it directly but it does not so I do not. YouTube works pretty good but their interface looks and acts like it was designed by a person on a meth comedown with terminal DTs.
