yocker 1247 Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 So finally finished my 7.1 speaker setup and am now unto how to actually playback 7.1 videos. Is Nvidia Shield still the best bet for best video/audio format support? Had an extra computer that i tried connecting to the TV but could never get Dolby Vision to work even with high end GPU.
RanmaCanada 494 Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 Yes. I would wait though as Nintendo is releasing the Switch 2 shortly, and there is a good possibility that we might finally see an update to the Shield, as the OG Shield and the OG Switch use the same hardware. As for DV, it's a mess as it's 100% proprietary and getting it to work all depends on your profiles your TV supports and what profile your file has.
yocker 1247 Posted January 15, 2025 Author Posted January 15, 2025 Thanks for the answer, will look into the switch though I think the current shield would server me well. Dolby vision shouldn't be a problem for my TV, it tends to view it no matter in what format the files a in (Android tv)
bakes82 167 Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 if you dont have atmos does it really matter? you could use an appletv since you would only lose the height channels.

It could be worth considering also. It just seems to have some limitations and/or need to use Infuse to work, rather have something that works out the box with Emby. That and i personally kinda hate everything Apple after Steve Jobs took over, no offense at all to people that like it.

Apple TV is a horrible choice anyways as HDR and DV don't work with Emby and you need to use INFUSE for them to function. Then there is also the fact that it's extremely conservative with the connection test. Every single one of my friends who has one has their streams limited to 4mbit if they leave it on Auto. No one should be using it for Emby, no one. Anyone who suggests you do use it, has no idea what they are talking about and should be ignored. 1

Auto quality should be avoided on all clients IMO and shouldn't be a problem because of that, I do agree with you on the other things, having read up on the Apple TV it seems more and more like a box dedicated to Apples own service, which ofc. aint bad if that's what you want. Kinda funny that after all this time that the Shield is still the go to.

If you want to venture away from it, yeah you're going to have a really bad time. 1
PeteGul 37 Posted February 11, 2025 Posted February 11, 2025 @RanmaCanadaIt tackled TrueHD, but not always the vide part. This could not be any problem for you, or maybe there isn't for my either. But it is still an problem. Read to check it out. LINK But this is really my first problem that really bug me and I can't figure out. Just to let you know, and I'm still pleased with my unit
