Bash103 6 Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 I thought Emby supported DTS. Why is it transcoding it? Infuse plays it without issue.
Luke 42077 Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 @Bash103your screenshot is TrueHD. Apple TV devices do not support True HD natively. Does this answer your question?

Bash103 6 Posted January 15, 2025 Author Posted January 15, 2025 My apologies for mislabeling the format. I'm with yocker, though. Why can't Emby "Direct Play" like Infuse?
Bash103 6 Posted November 10, 2025 Author Posted November 10, 2025 (edited) Wondering if there has been any followup for this one? I understand that Apple TV might not support True HD natively, but my A/V receiver does so why can't Emby pass through the audio so my receiver can produce the best audio? As is using Emby provides a substantially reduced experience. Edited November 10, 2025 by Bash103

Bash103 6 Posted November 10, 2025 Author Posted November 10, 2025 (edited) Then how is Infuse doing it on my Apple TV? There is a very noticeable difference when playing the same movie through the Emby app and the Infuse app on the same AppleTV. Edited November 10, 2025 by Bash103
abat119 11 Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 I too have raised this issue in the past... from what I understand it's a licensing issue. but yes - I'm an emby premiere subscriber and would love this feature to happen. Technically it is possible since Infuse can do it... Eagerly waiting...
GrimReaper 4739 Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 It is more likely Infuse is internally decoding/converting it to some other format, probably PCM. If the device you're trying to bitstream audio doesn't "understand" (support) audio format, there is no trick you can make that'd cause it to passthrough it. What does your receiver display during Infuse playback?
Lazarus_Long 80 Posted November 11, 2025 Posted November 11, 2025 Here is detailed info from Infuse: https://support.firecore.com/hc/en-us/articles/217735707-Audio-Options-Capabilities They don't support TrueHD (because Apple TV doesn't)

What does your receiver display during Infuse playback? This is exactly what his happening. Emby will do the same, but the conversion takes place on the server.
Bash103 6 Posted November 11, 2025 Author Posted November 11, 2025 (edited) If they are both doing the same thing why is there such vast difference in sound quality? Also, why does the above screenshot show Emby is transcoding the audio to AC3 instead of LPCM? Edited November 11, 2025 by Bash103

Quote why is there such vast difference in sound quality? HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !

AC3 is a compressed format LPCM is uncompressed. That would explain the difference in quality. AC3 != PCM Edited November 11, 2025 by Bash103
abat119 11 Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Yes, Infuse converts to LPCM (lossless) and does sound much better - albeit losing ATMOS in the process (worth the tradeoff imo ) Emby team, can you please add an option server side to choose wheter to convert to AC3 or LPCM? That would be awesome if possible...

Ok. I prefer Emby’s collections, etc, but want the uncompressed audio more. Would love to be able to ditch Infuse. 1
