DTS Not Supported

I thought Emby supported DTS. Why is it transcoding it?  Infuse plays it without issue.IMG_3563.thumb.jpeg.44ad089c4f213e19b495aa75e089498a.jpeg

@Bash103your screenshot is TrueHD. Apple TV devices do not support True HD natively. Does this answer your question?

Seeing as Infuse on the same device plays (passes through) TrueHD why can't Emby?

My apologies for mislabeling the format. I'm with yocker, though. Why can't Emby "Direct Play" like Infuse?

Wondering if there has been any followup for this one? I understand that Apple TV might not support True HD natively, but my A/V receiver does so why can't Emby pass through the audio so my receiver can produce the best audio? As is using Emby provides a substantially reduced experience.

Hi, the Apple TV hardware does not support dts pass through.

Then how is Infuse doing it on my Apple TV?

There is a very noticeable difference when playing the same movie through the Emby app and the Infuse app on the same AppleTV.

I too have raised this issue in the past... from what I understand it's a licensing issue.

but yes - I'm an emby premiere subscriber and would love this feature to happen. Technically it is possible since Infuse can do it...

Eagerly waiting... 🙃

It is more likely Infuse is internally decoding/converting it to some other format, probably PCM. If the device you're trying to bitstream audio doesn't "understand" (support) audio format, there is no trick you can make that'd cause it to passthrough it. What does your receiver display during Infuse playback?

This is exactly what his happening. Emby will do the same, but the conversion takes place on the server.

If they are both doing the same thing why is there such vast difference in sound quality?

Also, why does the above screenshot show Emby is transcoding the audio to AC3 instead of LPCM?

Emby transcodes unsupported audio to ac3. They are converting unsupported audio to pcm.

AC3 is a compressed format LPCM is uncompressed.

That would explain the difference in quality. AC3 != PCM

Yes, Infuse converts to LPCM (lossless) and does sound much better - albeit losing ATMOS in the process (worth the tradeoff imo 😁 )

Emby team, can you please add an option server side to choose wheter to convert to AC3 or LPCM? That would be awesome if possible...

Hi, the conversion to ac3 is already happening.

So we’re stuck with the subpar (compressed) audio experience?

No, I was just responding in case others would interpret that as not having any conversion to ac3 currently available.

Ok. I prefer Emby’s collections, etc, but want the uncompressed audio more. Would love to be able to ditch Infuse.
