mrhat 8 Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Hi all, running Emby premiere hosted on Windows 10. Everything is working great. Have a livetv channel through a M3U file. Its a RTSP stream. I can watch live no problem I can record no problem. However, while recording if I watch the stream its live and realtime. If i try to find the 'recording' - sometimes i'm presented with a 'play from beginning' option -> this has never worked and fails every time. Worst part is its a sport i'm trying to watch so instead of starting from the beginning it jumps to live and spoils the score for me! haha. Is my assumption wrong that this isnt actually a feature? you cannot run it like a traditional PVR where the recording is happening but I can start watching from any point recorded so far and seek through (skipping commercials) I'm hitting my head against the wall reviewing settings and I swear i'm not missing anything.... same behavior no matter what Emby client (Website, iphone app, google chromecast tv app) many thanks for reading!
Luke 42077 Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
mrhat 8 Posted January 10, 2025 Author Posted January 10, 2025 Thanks Luke, I will do that now. However, is my assumption on how it should work correct? are people able to record and play back the recording with seeking? thats by design?
mrhat 8 Posted January 10, 2025 Author Posted January 10, 2025 Here is a collection of logs from the server with todays timestamp. In the latest log lines this was behavior. Open live tv channel, hit record. wait a few mins. Go back to live channel and play.. goes live Go to live tv -> recording -> hit play (not asked to start at beginning) - goes live Go to library -> recordings -> hit play (not asked to start at beginning) - goes live Emby User: Jason Time frame: 10:30pm EST to 10:40pm EmbyLogs-Jan9.7z
Carlo 4560 Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 Was this for Edmonton Oilers at Pittsburgh Penguins? I took a quick look and saw it uses 2 channels but also showed an error that occurred which may be responsible for that or could be unrelated. m3u files using RTSP streams is not very common as they are usually used for different purpose other than last mile streaming which it isn't designed for and likely the contributing factor here. A dev will need to take a further look, Carlo
mrhat 8 Posted January 14, 2025 Author Posted January 14, 2025 Sorry Luke, thought you were waiting for a dev to look further. Here is the reply I also sent you privately Hey Luke, ya it was the Edmonton Oilers game. i tried a new channel/stream in HLS mode (i control the HDMI encoder) and last night it totally worked as expected. So Emby must like that type of stream better than RTSP etc. 1
Luke 42077 Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Yes that would make things simpler so I can see how that would help. Thanks.

mrhat 8 Posted January 24, 2025 Author Posted January 24, 2025 Actually it’s been much better since going to HlS so we can consider this issue resolved. Thanks for the check in! Amazing community 1
