Rubenpi 2 Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 Hello Everybody, This question has probably been asked many times, sorry for this. I have been using Linux for a while, but to be honest, I am not exactly knowledgeable when it comes to using the command line or permissions. I have a Raspberry Pi 400 with Raspbian and I installed Emby Server on a 128 Gb MicroSD card. My username is "gabi". I would like to grant "emby" to have access to my local Videos directory in my /home/gabi/Videos folder. I used the following commands: sudo chown -R emby:emby /home/gabi/Videos sudo chmod -R 755 /home/gabi/Videos sudo usermod -aG gabi emby Still, the Server has no access to the folders. Could someone please help me with what I am doing wrong? Thank you so much for your help in advance!
Lessaj 467 Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 More than likely your home folder /home/gabi has 700 permissions which would prevent the emby user from being able to traverse to subdirectories, even if it owns them. You could open the permissions a little by setting your home folder to 755 but really I'd recommend putting the videos somewhere else on the file system and not in your home folder and then have emby own the files/folders.
Rubenpi 2 Posted January 7, 2025 Author Posted January 7, 2025 (edited) @LessajThank you for taking the time to reply to me. I am going to try and report back here. Edited January 7, 2025 by Rubenpi
Rubenpi 2 Posted January 8, 2025 Author Posted January 8, 2025 Thank you, I was able to create a folder in the root file system (/Videos). I had to apply the settings I detail in my first post, and I can only manipulate wit the folder if I run a file manager (pcmanfm or mc) as root. 1 1
