tedfroop21 86 Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 TheTVDB is changing how their Actors for TV shows are done. There is now a set of the main actors for the series and guest stars attached to episodes. For the most part - it has been seamless on my end. My question is, if say I had the DVD sort order selected, and in the process of updating that sort order info disappeared from TheTVDB, would the sort order in Emby return to the default (Aired)? I am guessing yes as I had a couple shows do just that. Futurama and The Flintstones were both set to DVD order and then I found Futurama (in my continue watching) suddenly had no episode info showing. A quick check showed the Meta set to Aired order, checked there was still a DVD order on thetvdb, and set it back. Scanned and the correct meta was restored.

tedfroop21 86 Posted January 10, 2025 Author Posted January 10, 2025 Sorry - I know what this is. When the playlists problem dumped my whole library all the TV shows would have reset to aired order because the meta got dumped too......guess I have to go fix it all. At least I learned to avoid music libraries and playlists on emby.....

tedfroop21 86 Posted January 10, 2025 Author Posted January 10, 2025 3 playlists. Content suddenly disappeared, then the playlists disappeared. Check playlist (m3u) files in emby. 2 of 3 appear normal, one is empty. Scan and playlists show back up. Delete empty playlist as I couldn't add to it, or do anything else with it. (As emby admin - after checking admin user had permissions for the playlist) Whole library - Movies, TV, Photos, and music as well as all playlists (video and music disappears.) Emby refuses to scan anything. Copy path for each library, delete path for each library, copy the same path back in as a new path, rescan - all but music. Recreate all my video playlists. Still working on hundreds of extras that are not found in online meta that dumped all the meta. Steered clear of restoring backups as it would have restored playlists and I would have had the same problem sooner or later.... Due to sever cognitive issues because of something called a "trauma anniversary" forgot about the pain in the ass of bringing emby back to a usable state and that I had not set sort order for TV series again.
Luke 42078 Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 Quote Content suddenly disappeared Hi, what do you mean by disappeared?
Luke 42078 Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 Quote Emby refuses to scan anything. Emby does not refuse to scan. If you click scan all media libraries, it will do a quick look through all directories to try and find changes since the last scan.

Tried to scan, tried to refresh meta, restarted, rebooted, no media showing in any library. There were no changes to the media or rights. Was there anything else I should have done to make it reappear?

In other words, what activity did you do, and when did you do it?
tedfroop21 86 Posted January 28, 2025 Author Posted January 28, 2025 After finding both audio and video playlists and playlist content missing I first tried "refresh metadata". That worked for all but one playlist - a music playlist. I had checked in /var/lib/emby/data/userplaylists subfolders for the missing playlist M3U files and that those files appeared intact - except one, which was empty. On metadata refresh of the playlists they all reappeared in emby. However the video playlists were empty and one audio playlist was empty. I then navigated back to the emby main page which was suddenly blank, except for music albums and the library links. None of the libraries showed any media. All gone. So restart emby. Still empty. Reboot the pc. Still empty. So I went in and checked the library paths, media files, and permissions had not changed, and tried refresh metadata, and scan library. Both of which did nothing and found no content. So I deleted the playlists....all of them. I picked one library (movies I think). I copied the path to the media from the Admin-Server-Library- Movies, deleted the path from emby, and pasted the path back in, at which point emby resumed scanning and finding media. Repeated for all the other libraries that were missing media. Locked all user rights to create playlists. The log files are from when I started looking for the missing playlist until rebuild was complete.
Luke 42078 Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 Quote None of the libraries showed any media. All gone. So restart emby. This is the root cause of everything that needs looking into. When did that happen?

My guess is a fatal database error. Somehow when it was unable to resolve the playlists it went "no media available" in those locations. There were video playlists as well. I have a large Looney Tunes collection and that was the only show that had playlists. (Sample attached) Bugs.m3u

I think with a fresh database on 4.8.10 you would not run into this.

What was super odd in all this that I failed to note was that a few days after the incident, all my played items showed as played, and the continue watching repopulated. It wasn't immediate though. At any rate - I was considering possibly moving to Linux Mint Cinnamon. I have been running another server on a separate machine on Mint for a while and find flatpaks easier to deal with than snaps or docker.
