TV shows content not available from Home Assistant

Hi Everyone,

I hope this issue fits under the General/Windows group. if not, I apologise.

Setup:
Emby v 4.7.14.0 running on Synology DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 7.
Home Assistant 2024.12.3 running In Synology Docker Container.

Issue:
I'm trying to make a video jukebox with Home Assistant, Emby and my networked TV with internal media player.
Basically I run an automation in Home Assistant, that starts a playback of an specific Emby media file on my tv.
This works perfectly with movies, where I have created a Emby library for Movies (looking in a media folder (/Movies/) on the same Synology server ), and in Home Assistant, the Emby server is available as a DLNA server, and list the "Movie" library, and multiple subfolders are available as: "Latest", "Movies", "Folders" etc.
I have been using the "Folders" for reference, and using this in my automation to start a specific movie on my TV. I could also had chosen to use the "Movies" subfolder, as all my movie titles are available there as well. Anyway, Movies work. So far so good :)

I've started adding TV shows as well to the Emby server, which I also wish to be able to start playback in the same way as the movies by Home Assistant.
I have created an /TV Shows/ folder on my NAS in the same level as /Movies/, where I keep the different TV Shows stored in subfolders.
Here is where the wheel fall of though.
If I browse the DLNA media server from Home Assistant and chose "TV Shows" instead of "Movies" I again get a list of different grouping of the media (See attached image). These includes "Latest", "Shows" and "Folders" and some more.
And though there a TV shows in the Emby media library that are identified by Emby and playable, there are ONLY available in Home assistant through the "Latest" folder. And if I add more TV shows, these will of course be replaced by the newest media. I'm not able to browse my complete Emby Tv Shows library in Home Assistant in the "Shows" or "Folders" folder, as I were with the movies. The show up empty if I open these folders.
If I open the webinterface for Emby running on my Synology, and choose "TV Shows" under "My Media" on the frontpage, and after that choose "Folders" in the selector, I have my TV Shows available with the right folder structure. And everything is available under "Shows" as well of course.

I tried creating a empty folder on my NAS with the path /TV Shows/Sonja/.
Emby did see the folder, but since no mediafiles where inside the /Sonja/ folder, no media files became available in Emby, only the new created /Sonja/ was listed under "Folders" - that makes sense.
In Home Assistant this empty folder became available in the "Folders" as well. So far so good.
BUT - as soon as I add a media file to the /Sonja/ folder (in my case .m4v), and Emby recognise it and Identifies it, the /Sonja/ folder disappears from Home Assistant, and the media file within that subfolder is only available under the "Latest" folder in Home Assistant.

So it seems like, Emby's internal database are working just fine, but the media list that Emby makes available for Home Assistant (and I guess other third party DLNA products), is not working with TV Shows.

Anyway - I hope someone maybe have a good idea, and can point me in the right direction with this. I have bin trying different approaches, but end up in the same problem every time.

Thank you

Regards,

Henrik

Hi,

Is Sonja the name of a TV Show?
Can you show us a screen shot of the Sonja directory?

Thanks,

Hi Carlo.

Thanks for your reply! Sorry about my late response. I have been offline for a few days.

I have attached several screenshows of the following:

  • The list of files and folders on my NAS server in the "TV" root folder.
  • The Meta Data Manager overview from Emby
  • Overview from Home assistant, and the "Shows" and "Folders" seen from Home assistant.
  • The Shows overview from Emby.

Right know I have tried different folder options, and troubleshooting in that way. That's why it's a mess on my server. Normally (and originally) I had everything organised in /TV/Show/Season/episodes.filetype but with no luck from Home Assistant.

But if you look at the Home assistant "Folders", it's only the empty "GTF" folder and the "Jullerup Færgeby 1.m4v" that's accesable.
The "Jullerup Færgeby 1.m4v" files is located in the root of the TV folder on the server. It's is NOT included in the "Jullerup Færgeby" show on the Emby server though - that only includes "Jullerup færgeby 2.m4v" that is located on /TV/Jullerup Færgeby/ on my Nas.
If I turn the slider on the Emby webpage to "Episodes" and not "Shows" I do see the "Jullerup Færgeby 1.m4v".

But it seems like, that as soon as a *.m4v file is identified and added to a show en Emby, it disappears from Home Assistant.
And I would love to use the "Continue watching" feature within Emby, and just select a show and play it from where ever I left off.

Regarding to your question about "Sonja". It's the name of the show yes - sometimes recalled as "Sonja serien" or "Sonja fra Saxogade" which is also the name of the first season. "Jullerup Færgeby" is also a show.
Sonja: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0143066/
Jullerup færgeby: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181231/

Looking forward for your reply.

Regards,

Henrik

Is the developer of that home assistant addon available for troubleshooting? It might require an update.

Hi Luke

It's a user called mezz64 who is listed for the integration: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/emby

He's last post on this forum was a half year ago - so maybe :).
https://emby.media/community/index.php?/profile/522-mezz64/

@mezz64- are you any change still maintaining the Home Assistant Emby integration?

I just tried accessing the Emby media server library from my smartTV, and here I got all the stuff that I'm missing in Home Assistant.
So I confirm it looks like an error in the Home Assistant integration rather then Emby not "exporting" the right media listings.

/Henrik
